Disturbed – Rise Lyrics 1 month ago
Just basing it off of an event in my own life, I perceive it as Jesus talking to someone and trying to give them strength. "Feel the light of your eyes find a way through the darkness tonight, fearing no one". I won't get into the complexity of my own beliefs here, but I pretty much considered myself a Satanist until about a week ago. It's a long story, but something happened that really proved to me that Jesus is really watching and doing what he can where he can. I feel like it's supposed to be Jesus saying in the song that if you've got a lot of darkness, he knows that there is light in there, and he wants you to use it to rise up above the darkness. "Do you really think I covet like you do?" He's saying that a lot of people usually go down dark paths to get something that they want. He's saying he wasn't, and isn't somebody who required any certain thing to be happy. "Am I precious to you now?" Something happens that really does shed a light to show you that he's there. He's able to channel something miraculous into your life in a time or need to let you see the light cut through that darkness and realize that he can sometimes give you a hand if you believe and let him. Then, my favorite part of the entire song. "I cannot stop this pure emotion falling from my eyes. You are vindicating, liberating saviors of my soul." I believe it could be from the perspective of Jesus as he sheds tears of joy as a result of seeing people pushing the darkness out of their hearts and letting him in so that he can help guide them to a better future. He refers to them as a saviors of his soul, as he feels like his sacrifice is being made more and more worth it as more people find his light.

Ghost – Witch Image Lyrics 2 years ago
I sort of interpret this song as Death speaking to somebody who has sold their soul for immortality. Likely somebody who follows Satan, and from the song title, probabaly a witch at that. "Like your father in hell, what you've sold, you cannot unsell"

The Reaper is pretty much expressing that thanks to the individual whom this song is about, he is unable to collect their life. "While you sleep in earthly delight, someone's flesh is rotting tonight" kind of makes me think he is sorta saying:

"Well, now you get to live forever, while I take the lives of many souls rich or poor, and you've disrupted the balance. I hope you're happy."

And then "Like no other to you, what you've done, you cannot undo." The person has sealed this pact, and there is no going back. Should they regret their descision and become lonely as all their friends and loved ones die around them, they themselves no longer have the opportunity to die along with them.

The other lyrics in the song I think you could pretty much piece together for my interpretation from there. May not be accurate, but that's what it sounds like to me. It's most definitely Death speaking, though, as the mention of riding behind the subject on a pale white horse is there.

@[frezyt:38244] on the flipside of that, the metaphor could be circulating around his father, as he was molested by him as a kid. Idk for sure.

@[frezyt:38243] That was kinda what I got from it as I have recently been listening to the album again, which makes me not fond of the particular song just because its a topic that sickens me. I love Korn, but I don't wanna hear about shit like that.

I think this song is about discovering upon death that everything that we were taught and told to believe about religion and afterlife or heaven/hell was all lies. Its got an even more depressing tone if you believe what the song is saying to be true.

"They shattered our right to wonder. Delivered us from free will."

Pretty much saying that people who are deep in religious beliefs are trying to live this perfect life for a being a God, and aren't supposed to question whether or not any of it is real or other possibilities of truth.

"Our stories were thrown on the fire. Burning like bibles."

I think this is saying that when we die, there goes our life and everything we had ever done or gone through. There was no more meaning to any of it than the lies we were told about a God and transfering to a semblance of afterlife once we leave earth.

"Our carbon shells deserted. We came so far for nothing. Unsung. Fixed on dead grass."

We have spent all our lives trying to do everything right so that this God would recognize us and value us enough to grant us eternal life after our mortal death, only to find out we were working towards a goal that was only fabrication.

And now the chorus:

"Hey, we're dead now
Affinity has been found below the ground
Beyond the heart's vow
the open road
Amnesia bound"

Basically saying we're dead, and thats it. There's no heavenly hand reaching down to pull our souls up or smack them down to either of these fictional kingdoms we were told were our only options after death. It really validates a part of the song "House of Wolves" by Bring Me the Horizon in which he says "And when you die, the only kingdom you'll see is two foot wide and six foot deep!"

This is what I get from it. Its a pretty sad song when you think that there is a very real chance that it's meaning could be totally true and people who have sacrificed so much for their beliefs could walk away empty handed.

Evile – Eternal Empire Lyrics 3 years ago
Okay, this is another song about Christianity/God based religions. I am going to explain this in large chunks.

"A seed is planted of a greater place
Where no wrongs shall ever be done
Where all dreams and wishes be granted
And our fears forever overcome
What can you say of limited life
Are you never satisfied?
With no uncertainty to tread
But me, I'd rather be dead

At the end they promise one more chance at life
With a word, with a book, with their selfish rites
On and on await the ever burning light
Never take, never break, never leave the line
Keeping all of worth no matter what remains
When it's time nothing more enough my eyes explain
Ever we endure the wisdom of mistakes
Never right, never wrong but always ours to make"

This is from view of people, and likely of the band members, who don't wish to live their life all butterflies, unicorns, and rainbows in order to get into "Heaven". They are saying "Can you not be happy with the life you live? Why would you want to go to a kingdom somewhere in the abyss to live forever?
Further more, they are saying that holy rollers promise that you will have an eternal, everlasting life, as so long as you live up to everything the bible says (which 0% of them do themselves). The band is telling the listener to make mistakes and learn from them. Just cause you do something bad doesn't mean you are going to burn alive for eternity. We are human, and though the "Good Book" wants to paint us a different picture, we are prone to mistakes. We should make them, and we should learn from their consequences that they should not be done.

"If I met this maker
I'd beg they listen well
To many histories gathered from this hell
Nothing could give purpose
To that I've no desire
A prison of the soul
Eternal empire"

The band is saying, singer in particular for the context of this song, "If I met God, I'd give him an earful pertaining to all the dustriction he has caused. War, suicide, physical and sexual abuse, close mindedness" The he is saying that nothing could justify all of these horrors and at the end of the day, you are trapping your soul within false propaganda.

I think you could pretty much piece the rest together. I also gave my 2 cents on the song before this on the track, which goes hand in hand with this. Being an Agnostic that believes that all Gods may exists and that this particular "God" is an extremist, I hope these songs are pure. Hope these explanations clear things up!

Evile – Cult Lyrics 3 years ago
No offense to anyone, but I take this song to be about Christianity.

"They say believing is what we see
though faith we sell
You want reward beyond where you lay?
Look where we tell"

They are saying that it is funny how people use the term "I'll believe it when I see it", though many are dead set on the idea of a God who has never showed himself existing. The people who worship this "God" believe that they will live in an eternal life of bliss after they leave this earthly realm. Thats the main jist of the first verse from what I gather, and the first 4 lines say it all.

"
We are the friend you can trust in now
We are your grace
Nobody else will dare question us
This power saves
You haven't seen beyond the real world
We'll take you there
But not before we hear you confess
And say our prayers"

The first 4 lines of this states how many Christian religions believe that their way is right, and anyone who believes differently is sadly mistaken. The second part is essentially saying "You will go to heaven, but you must confess all your wrong doings and pray to the same God as we do and worship him, or you will go to an undesirable place."

That is ultimately what that verse is saying. It's a mockery.

"We can deliver you
Four winds come into view
Breathe deep of our beliefs
The cult knows you'll never leave"

This is saying that a church and it's memebers can assure you are free of sin, but you must kiss their asses in order for that to happen. Fall into their beliefs, practice their prayers, they praise, their chiors, and you will be sent to heaven. They know that any gullible human being will subscribe to this and live in fear of ever leaving their beliefs, believing that if they don't, they will they will burn for eternity.

This theory of this song' meaning is kind of confirmed by the next song, "Eternal Empire".

Katatonia – Decima Lyrics 4 years ago
So from this song, I get strong Romeo & Juliet type of vibes. Two lovers that struggle with the burdens of life's journey and agree to take their own lives together, but one of them is scared and having seconds thoughts. The chorus and the second verse of the song lead me to believe this.

"Darling, you had me here for awhile
Breaks my heart to see you cry
In the wake of incomplete time"

The lover of whom's perspective the song is being sung is crying because they don't think they are ready to leave.

"So take however long you want
(But don't forget, my love)
You pledged yourself to come along"

The bridge even makes it sound like one of the lovers was too afraid to go along with the plan, thus letting the other die while they themselves went on living.

"One heart is in the ground
The other is veiled in silver all around"

Though it is a bit depressing, this is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Jonas Renske's voice is just pure gold, and the tone of the music and the way he sings the song is just captivating.

Katatonia – Serein Lyrics 4 years ago
In the morning, the battle for endurance has been lost. I sold my worth and dignity the same. I am shade, an essence of corroding time"

Depression is kickstarting every day.

"So pale next to my love in evey way, meaningless scar"

The one you love is joyfull while you are still holding on to pain.

"Through the evening, where our wisdom turns to rust, fill the gap with lost integrity. I become the one you haven't seen for years."

Using alcohol to stupify yourself, feign the act of forgetting your own pain, and become an obnoxious version of who you were in the past. And then

"Liberating rain... two shots and I need more... adapt to the flow... taste of the void... get back and focus again. More of the fire churns the blood. The weight of dependance, await to be slain by memories of old"

It gives the strength to face what is going on in your life today and be numb to it, yet you are still trapped in the moments of whatever traumatized your past. .
