I don't know why no-one has mentioned anything about this song yet....I guess because it's pretty straightforward!! I think it's true - everything is all about soul. And when you know someone well enough to know their thoughts then you know their soul. I love this song. |

Apparently Bono was strumming this song out on a guitar one night after a U2 concert and Roy Orbison happened to arrive backstage to meet the band. He overheard the song or Bono played it for him or something, and Roy asked if he could sing it. I heard Bono talk about this on a documentary about Orbison's life. It's a beautiful song. |

I absolutely love this song - Bono just sounds so sarcastic, and he's awesome!
"I'm only hanging on to watch you go down....my love" is one of the best lines ever!! It sounds to me like the guy in the song is frustrated with the girl because she's so aloof but she's also impossible to forget about because he wants her so much. It's a kinda bitter song that is so good when you are in the mood to just be angry at someone!! |

I definitely think it's a heroin reference - "Just a little push and you'll be smilin'" i.e. pushing on a needle. I agree with freedysgirl, it's rhyming slang but maybe smack instead of crack?...Either way GREAT SONG. |
