It's also a song about a homeless war veteran with PTSD who fought in Normandy. He has a recurring dream where he sees an explosion (it's something that happens sometimes in soldiers who've had such an event happen, and they often need therapy, or meds of some kind for it). It's also about as you said, those people that are just zombies who work for the "collective". The kind of people who don't question anything, don't want to learn anything from someone, or exchange ideas. Just blindly follow people they feel are worthy of respect based on their title, or power. Kind of people who are narcissists always like "uuhuhu look how great I am!" and actually suck lol. Those followers, they'll follow their leader to the edge of hades ofofo.. They lack something inside, and search for "something more" in all the wrong places. Break the sound of silence. |

Another interpretation, the song is about a homeless WW2 veteran with PTSD who fought in Normandy. "Narrow streets of cobblestone", "eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light". People who have seen combat will sometimes say that they'll have flashback dreams, and possibly have a dream of the moment it happened. The narrator is thus a homeless WW2 veteran who travels the streets of NYC preaching to peoples. It's also about those people who don't think outside the box. The kind of people who just accept everything for what it is, like "uhuhu well smart people said it so it must be true, uhuhu. The kind of people who aren't willing to improve themself, or take advice from someone. Kind of people who can't see between the lines, or cross reference so to speak. Or who, don't want to, don't care to. A lot of people walking around are a bunch of zombies. A good 30% of people lohl. Just husks that go around serving people like little lapdogs. I think the song is about a homeless war veteran who goes around preaching in the streets. He fought in Normandy perhaps in WW2, and now wanders the streets of 1960s NYC as a vagrant (lohl). Also, ofc it's about those closed minded people, that don't want to learn anything new, don't care to improve themself, or to think outside the box. |
