This song is about someone that uses the idea of 'love' to get what he wants from others. He himself has no use for love whether because he can't handle it, understand it, etc. Whatever his disability to feel true love is, love only complicates and confuses his life and soon he regrets even playing along with his own charade and just wants to move on and be done with it at any cost..... |

@[EnduringChill:30146] I think (elaborating on your interpretation) that "qu'est-que c'est" is a statement of the onlookers of the crime scene right after the act is committed. Since they also speak French that this is occurring somewhere where the general populace speaks French. And then of course that is why they 'Run away' so that they aren't next.... |

'penetrate your holy ground' and 'M-16' narrows it down to post-Vietnam conflicts but it is the live perspective of a soldier out in front of his patrol on 'point'.....don't know if the lyrics are correct but I think it is more powerful if instead of 'point is where all die' it should be 'point is where I'll die' just as in the early part of the song he states 'point is where I reign' Two things on your mind while on point are that every enemy that spots you should die before they kill you.....and that's what this song is about. |

Great fucking song!!!! She had her heart broken....went through the power struggle with her own feelings between her lost obviously unrequited love and vengeance for being used. Making the change is getting over her feelings of hurt and rising above it all stronger for the experience. "Flying high on blackened wings, colder than steel instantly real, a new power flows in me"....this is all describes her new attitude....colder, harder more independent and aware..... |

I think it is about functional alcoholism.....alcoholics drink to forget.....they still are part of the machine....they make it to work and make it through the day "Breathe in, breath out"....functioning.

@[MasterofMetal:30069] He does also speak for the band...this song is about the rise and fall of PF and though it is melancholy it is inspired, true and one is left with a good feeling because PF always had something to look forward to throughout their careers the next album was always another masterpiece and a solid 30 year run is nothiing to shake a stick at. It is also brilliant and a peace to KNOW WHEN YOU ARE DONE. It was actually a privilege many don't take advantage of to be able to compose such a perfect eulogy to such a great era of music that will never be again. Sad, true. But I celebrate every time I listen to Pink Floyd to have lived when they did in the world that inspired them to perform so well.....just wish I got to see them together live just once..... |

To me it refers to the bombing of Japan.....the pilot is happy to be on target following orders as a horse does....eyes wired on the target just as a horse is. My horse (Japan) is the 'shackled old man' because they didn't have nuclear capability yet and so were outdated and outclassed---they couldn't possibly know what was coming. Hence their and our remorse for when the nuke detonates and turns the sky grey (fall-out)....then the change to 'Where were the eyes'....refers to the lack of thought on the pilots part as to what he was actually doing....Where was his mind's eye at the time he hit the button? |
