I saw a documentary about the Cure and in one segment the interviewer asked what it was like to see fans dressed up with him. He basically said at that moment he started thinking things were really surreal. I think this song is about seeing faces in the crowd of people that dress like him, admire him, and are his ever devoted fans... He sees them as high as a kite, as high as he might, bursting into clouds = cheers of the fans Kitten as cat (dedicated fans still following him despite aging) Seeing red sticky lips looking back at him, imitating how he looks and seeing himself reflected in his fan. And realizing how he almost walked away |
