Robert Palmer – Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor) Lyrics 2 years ago
I once had a crush on somebody that hit me like an anvil. I really reflected on the line " I got it bad and I got it good". Oh and I was 29 , same girl when I knew she was with somebody reduced me to the fetal position on the carpet

Randy Newman – Pants Lyrics 2 years ago
@imperial.bedroom the thing with Naked Mad is that it was part of a bigger story. which was the rest of the Good Old Boys album. There is no way you would normally know that in 2007 I think.. I recently bought the Good Old Boys reissue with Randy telling the story what some of these gems we have known for decades and how he originally envisioned the story. He just simply rules.

Barry Manilow – I Write The Songs Lyrics 2 years ago
@[afropath:37892] no he didn't , the former drummer of the Beach Boys did. The song is really about the spirit of music. The lyrics, the melody and the harmonies and most importantly the inspiration.

Bob Dylan – Love Sick Lyrics 4 years ago
@[HunterUk:33317] actually. Despite enjoying some Dylan albums to death I did not have all of them when this album came out. With no hits to my knowledge this album won three Grammy awards that year and that was enough to get it on my radar to buy it without knowing one song. Blown away by this song in particular and it is a great album.

Supertramp – If Everyone Was Listening Lyrics 4 years ago
Thank you to you 8 people who answered before me. We can debate whether CRIME is a concept album or not. Isn't that the best concept? One you have to debate its mere existence? What I am sure the 9 of us will agree that this gem of an album has a flow to it. It is even bookended with the wailing harmonica. Even if this is a Rick song and the track that follows it is a Roger song , it serves as the perfect setup for the closer. Like Mariano in the 8th before Wetland in the 9th. ( and I hate the Yankees). This song to me talks about regret and dread. Crime of the Century ( the song) is consequence , finality and the realization that WE are guilty. The blame is not out there. It is within. If everyone was listening seems to be the initial realization that maybe it is too late. The next track is the total realization that yes we could not stop the momentum and now live with the consequences. I believe we have to treat at least these 2 tracks together.

Of course I am thinking of Boon Gould and the very early Level 42. A hint of how good their ballads already were. About the lyrics. Guy thinks whoever the girl is running to is useless compared to him.

Alice Cooper – How You Gonna See Me Now Lyrics 5 years ago
Great, I watched the video and made notes for you guys then I discovered Alice ( Vince ) himself has a video explaining the song/ video of How You Gonna See Me Now. Hunt for that in YouTube. Anyway the video of How You Gonna See Me Now. I have a love hate relationship with music videos. I discovered this song in the late 70s because of this video. He is in this cell and he has that eye make up which should signify he is not fine. While in the cell he is writing her but she is reading the letters in the kitchen serving breakfast to the two kids. Granted she is drinking hard liquor on the rocks while reading those letters. While writing the letters he is reminiscing to the time they first met . The memory of the two of them running towards each other . He eventually gets wheeled into a room marked "therapy " then comes out well. He seems ecstatic to be running home with a suitcase in each hand. Unfortunately the wife who was stressed with a husband locked away / in rehab and taking care of two kids by herself ends up getting the same eye affliction that Alice originally had.

" Jesus send some good women to save all your clowns" . Totally loved this line specially in the 80s when I was a lot of clown but did not know much about "good women"

Cliff Richard – Bachelor Boy Lyrics 5 years ago
This song is either about 1) self fulfilling prophecy or 2) a parent's wish being adhered to much longer than necessary. See the movie Honeymoon in Vegas. . The last verse seems contradictory because he speculates that he will do the opposite of what his father said yet he talks about the father's prediction being true for the rest of his life.

Electric Light Orchestra – Telephone Line Lyrics 5 years ago
In the late 70s I used to live for the weekly installment of the radio show American Top 40. Of course to know music and to learn trivia since I was always so curious about music . Anyway I can still play Casey ( Shaggy) Kasem's voice in my head when they would pick an older song and give some trivia. Long Distance Dedication or whatever. Any Jeff Lynne who you all know also produces the song as well as sing and all the other things. He wanted the right ring that you hear on the song. He was in the UK and tried a bunch of different rings calling different countries till he got Ma Bell or whatever in the US. The ring you hear in the song. That was off memory and maybe there is a more coherent version somewhere in Google.

Sting – It's Probably Me Lyrics 5 years ago
Yes this song was a hit in 1992 same time as a movie and back when MTV was playing music. I have a weird relationship with this song. When some of my ex girlfriends get into that mode where they never want to talk to me again and they come back and that door between us is not totally shut. I have no illusions of any romantic comeback or anything but this thought that something about me stuck with them that they can't pull that plug forever. Maybe just maybe I was unique. Definitely not the one but unique. I hate to say it , I hate to say it but it's probably me.

Don Henley – Sunset Grill Lyrics 5 years ago
I was a high school senior when this record came out. I can still play Don's voice in my head saying on a radio interview that there are still some people who take pride in what they do. Even if that thing in making you a hamburger. And "there is no hiding place". You are within arm's length of the person making it for you.

Supertramp – Don't Leave Me Now Lyrics 5 years ago
For those of you that saw the tour Famous Last Words they had a video of the tightrope moving to the beat of Bob Siebenberg 's drums ( or was that a tape) . Since that was about 37 years ago I can't remember if the rope was cut in the video. Just before Roger Hodgson sang Give A Little Bit in the concert I saw he announced he was leaving which of course was met with boos. Anyway things to consider from the last tour where Supertramp was complete. .

Lyle Lovett – I Married Her Just Because She Looks Like You Lyrics 5 years ago
There was this show called Naked Truth that starred Tea Leoni. There was an episode where she goes to wedding of her ex ( I think played by American Gods Ian McShane) and sees the bride who resembles her. She starts to get smug thinking that the choice for this bride was his way of compensating for never getting her . That is until she meets her predecessor who resembles her. For all we know that episode was inspired by this song.

Don Henley – Dirty Laundry Lyrics 5 years ago
None of the comments mention this but it is there in the wiki before the lyrics. Don himself was part of the tabloid news cycle. I know this because I was in jr high delivering newspapers at the time and read it. It involved a minor, drugs and a hot tub. Of course I was already an Eagles fan with a couple of LPs. So I was aware of this song when it first got airplay. Even now 36 years later, it sounds so good cranked up . Along with the still relevant lyrics.

Bob Seger – Old Time Rock And Roll Lyrics 5 years ago
I saw Seger and the Silver Bullet Band twice. The Distance Tour ( 83) , Like A Rock (86). Listen to the the version of this song from the Nine Tonight album ( live) . That is what I heard the first time. It truly defined rock and roll. Unfortunately later that year the movie Risky Business came out. Which I guess is how y'all know this song. So when I saw them again in 86. They excised the rockin intro and returned to the descending piano intro from the studio album.

The Cars – Stranger Eyes Lyrics 5 years ago
There are some other songs and other artists where somebody eventually on the thread says "it's about drugs!". Somehow I am "that guy" for this song. Then again back in the mid 80s maybe I read in Rolling Stone Magazine or somewhere where the whole album was about coming down from drugs and looking for more. Dark red soul. Stranger eyes might mean being unrecognizable while being under the influence. "I need your touch , it means so much." how can that not be addiction to a substance? I never noticed this in 34 years but towards the end the chorus slightly changes to " danger stranger eyes" Somehow I doubt it is a toxic female. But that is just me.

Supertramp – Waiting So Long Lyrics 5 years ago
A long time ago there was a preview show for this brand new Supertramp album called Famous Last Words. The sole person being interviewed was John Anthony Helliwell. This song is about how modern music royally sucks ( and this was in 1982). Guess this was the introduction of techno pop with the vocals being what they are. Synth this and drum machine that.

Billy Joel – Scenes From An Italian Restaurant Lyrics 5 years ago
1. If I recall when Elton John toured with Billy Joel they both deduced that some of their epic songs ( in the case of Elton Funeral for a Friend/ Love Lies Bleeding) were separate songs that weren't coming together on their own and ended up being fused together.
2. Fans of the opponents of the Louisville Cardinals Mens Basketball team would use this song to heckle coach Rick Pitino .

3. There was this comic in the mid 80s called 'mazing man . The creative team admitted that the characters Brenda and Eddie were lifted from the song. http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/%27Mazing_Man_Vol_1

The Police – Murder By Numbers Lyrics 5 years ago
OK sonny. Time to act like a old man and talk about walking to school uphill both ways. I had the LP within a year of the release. There was no Murder By Numbers. Yet it was on the cassette. In 1983-84 the CD was still a novelty when there were literally a handful of available titles like Born to Run and Bop Till You Drop. The reason why Murder .... was left off the LP was because even if it was plausible , it would compress the grooves on that side of the album and affect the sound of the whole side. That is a reality with 33 1/3 vinyl records that is a non issue with a CD (74 minutes) or a cassette . This was a time when listening to a DJ talk about music was like everything. That DJ lamented " leave out Murder By Numbers but keep in Mother!!". Sorry in my opinion Mother's insanity contributed to the whole being greater than the sum of the parts. Thank you for reading ! Get off my lawn!

Electric Light Orchestra – 21st Century Man Lyrics 5 years ago
First read up on the overall story of the album where this is from , Time. The protagonist from 1981 gets whisked to the 2095 . It seems he is being rejected or kicked out from the "future" for not appreciating where he is. There is also a prediction that when he returns to his own time , he may be either worshipped or mocked. Isn't that the fate of most prophets? Another prediction is there will still be regret leaving 2095 despite all the homesickness.
