Morrissey – At Last I Am Born Lyrics 5 years ago
The overall song is about Morrissey finally feeling reasonably content with life. It has the tongue in cheek element of saying 'historians note' etc.

The part that always confused me was the reference to Claude Brasseur... Then I found an old interview with Morrissey where he said that at around the time of this song he found Claude Brasseur's films and they helped him through a difficult time, made him smile. So when he says 'from difficult child to spectral hand to Claude Brasseur' he isn't comparing himself to Claude Brasseur, he is saying that his final stage of development (in which he is happy) is due to *finding* Claude Brasseur.

@[raytownian:25845] I don't think that really explains all the talk about writing lies etc. It seems to me that it's just a dig at music critics.

The Associates – Stephen, You're Still Really Something Lyrics 6 years ago
I think this is probably a tongue in cheek response to the rumours about him and Morrissey rather than evidence that anything happened.

Tom Doyle says in 'The Glamour Chase':
'In the early 80s Billy had forged a fleeting friendship with Morrissey, which had allegedly ended with Mackenzie stealing a Jane Stein novel and a favourite shirt from the singer's Manchester flat. The music industry rumours that the two had enjoyed a brief affair were fuelled by the release of the Smiths' sixth single, 'William, It Was Really Nothing', in September 1984.'

The only reference to Billy in Morrissey's autobiography is this:
'The door bell rings and there stands singer Billy Mackenzie, whom I've never met, asking if he can come inside to sit by my window.'

Pretty straight forward song... Except for when he mentions Claude Brasseur. Dunno what he means by that.
