I feel this song is about someone who's had a chance to become to make it big, such as a big audition or had a big performance, but it all went wrong. They feel there's no going back. No chance of redemption. All the hard work they had put it in for that one night, one moment, is all a waste. But it wasn't just an ambition they were working towards. They were trying to pick themselves up from a dark place, perhaps trying to get away from a life of prostitution or substance addiction. I feel the whole album is about going through some heavy obstacles and failing to get through, succumbing to defeat. |

A very deep, dark metaphor of a drug/alcohol addict in their moment of hitting rock bottom, nearing the end of their life, going through withdrawal. "I keep wandering through the storm" - Drug dependency is often depicted as a chaotic storm. "Burdened by the oaths I've sworn"- Meaning all the times they've promised their loved ones they would never do drugs, quit drugs, go to treatment. "I assure you it's a tragic life form I'm a wanderer in the dark Here's no light, not even a spark And the darkness got a grip on my heart" - They're explaining how it's a low way to live. They have no hope, no ambition. They're just wandering through, looking for the next hit. The darkness is the addiction and that's all they care about. "Onwards and onwards I go But to where I do not know I keep on making my way Through the snow There's no shelter here to find No shred of hope left on my mind And my guardian angel left me behind" - They are homeless, with no real place to go. The drugs have filled their mind and believe everyone has deserted them. The person used to have someone in their life who tried to help them but then kicked the addict out. |

"I wander lost and lonely by the shoreline of the sea I think about the way I wanted life to be The seaside leads me on to the sound of sweeping waves My heart gets filled with sorrow and grief along the way" - This is someone in a deep depression contemplating walking out into the ocean to drown as they can't see any point of living. They are grieving for the people they lost, but more so their own will to live. "So many darkened memories still haunt me from the past I think about all the loved ones I have lost I know the spring will come with soothing rain some day But only to be followed by the winters devastating pain" -They're not sure there is much point to go on living if everything good comes to an end, and they just can't take anymore. "I see you wander lost and lonely by the shoreline of the sea There's no light, there's no dreams, only night And the streams of tears down your cheeks There's a wind from the past and at last it brought you to your knees There's no hope, there's no glee, there's no life Left for thee who wanders by the sea" -This is a bridge in the song that signifies the person has submerged into the ocean and begins to drown. When the narration turns to the 2nd person, (this sung in a growl by a male guitarist) it seems this is a dark creature, perhaps death itself, agreeing with the person and reminding them there is no turning back and no reason to hold regrets now. My take on the whole song, vocalist, Ailyn, just sorta sung the lyrics without really emoting much to convey the darker meaning. She has a ethereal voice but with this one it seemed she was just going through the motions instead putting emphasis into what the song was about. The growls of Morten Veland were the only redeeming part that put much needed disparity into the song, but it's too little, too late. The melody is beautiful. |

I used to hear the lyrics way wrong. It actually sounded like a grotesque song about a girl beaten to a bloody pulp and that's what "lump" registered to me. The guy is talking about once knowing a girl he thought wasn't very smart, slept around, did drugs and lacked any sense of morals and self control. He's imagining she might be dead already, or close to being dead, or if she's really having the time of her life. But she could be settled down. He had a sort of crush on her but didn't like the path she was going. He came back into her life to help her. And she realized that he actually cared for her, unlike the others, so she decided to settle down and no longer felt the need to have sex all the time. She just wanted to clean up, start excelling through life. The guy stopped referring her as "Lump" and that persona he gave her was gone. |
