Hed PE – Jezus (of Nazareth) Lyrics 22 years ago
Actually, it says in the leaflet (?) in the front of the "Broke" CD that it's "I'm afraid of the crucifix hanging on my wall"... I did consider your version of it for a while, seeing as it wouldn't be the first time a leaflet from a CD cover didn't have the correct version of the lyrics, but after a couple of listens I decided that he definitely says "hanging" not "that ain't"

Are you sure it has anything to do with Lynn Strait? I know I don't know enough about the whole Lynn Strait thing to be sure, but I do think that if it had more to do with his death they probably would have made some mention of him in the leaflet, instead of just having Snot down in their favourite bands part.

Hell, was Broke even released before Lynn Strait's death?

Manic Street Preachers – Australia Lyrics 22 years ago
Really? I thought the furthest away from Britain you can go was New Zealand... but then again, that wouldn't have had the same sound, would it? :)

Manic Street Preachers – A Design For Life Lyrics 22 years ago
Music is art, and art always has different meanings depending on who sees or listens to it.

I see the song Roger Wilco's way, but I can also see how mytwojakes way works. However, I don't really give a shit about the working class identity and the working class perception, and that's a theme that is only relative to one generation of people. A truly great song or piece of literature has themes that will stand the test of time, and for this alcoholism masking the pain of life is a far superior theme.

I couldn't care less about what the Manics were trying to say in this piece, or at least what you claim they were trying to say, because the theme of alcoholism masking the pain of life is a meaning that anyone can relate to, whereas the working class identity one only applies to a select few.

Oh, and "And I, in turn, shall consider that as vindication of my opinion of your intellect. Game, set and match."
Are you trying to sound smarter than you really are by using words with such a stuck up git type tone? Because to me you just seemed to be making an ass of your self.

Adios!

The Smashing Pumpkins – Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Lyrics 22 years ago
If you love this song, you should really try listening to some Sigur Ros some time. Try Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun to get you started. They've been compared to Smashing Pumpkins, and they create the most beautiful music I've ever heard =)

DeathRockBoy - "I don't see any happiness in it, at all"

Have you even listened to the song? What about
Tonight, tonight
Galapogos
Muzzle
Porcelina of the Vast Ocean
Take me down
Thirty-Three
In the Arms of Sleep
Beautiful
Lily (my one and only)
By Starlight
Farewell and Goodnight

It seems to me that there are quite a few happy songs in Mellon Collie, so perhaps you were getting it confused with a different album.

And the line "Love is Suicide" is just plain brilliant. You can really see Billy Corgan's genius coming out in that song.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Ava Adore Lyrics 22 years ago
Personally, I think this song is about a guy that's completely screwed in the head. I think the whole song implies a really messed up relationship in which he is imposing her will on her, a sort of rape type thing. The only difference here being that he doesn't know how he's hurting her. I think the line "We must never be apart" is sort of showing a will to hold her back and force them to be together, and "I'll pull all your crooked teeth / you'll be perfect just like me" is showing how he's trying to make her into something she isn't because he thinks he loves her so much. This whole song just conjures up imagery of insanity and rape, to me.

Music is art, especially the Smashing Pumpkins, and all art differs in the eye (or the ear) of the beholder, of course.

Sevendust – Xmas Day Lyrics 22 years ago
I think that the lyrics (I can't deny her, I'll do whatever / to stop all the bleeding that makes / her world so red) kind of imply the whole "boyfriendish" sense of a relationship. True, it doesn't say anything specific about anybody, so it could be about his mother, but I think that the tone of the words just seems more romantic than a song about his mother.

I think of the song as being basically an exact portrayal of how I felt about my best friend for a while.

She gets incredibly drunk every night (Sleeps with a phone on her chest / And a bottle that's totally dry), and wakes up at 6 at night just to go out and do the same thing again (Still she hasn't seen sun...), and she had been abused all her life (She screams so loud that I run / to hide from the sound). I knew I was falling in love with her, but I didn't want to tell her because I knew that we just weren't right for each other (But it's too far-gone / and this love must die). I had my problems too, and I just wanted her to forget about me and move on with her life (So just run as fast as you can for me). I also put her feelings over mine, and would have done anything just to see her happy, even if it meant I'd be on the verge of killing myself (You mean everything).

Anyway, that's how I see it, but music is art and as with all art there's always going to be different possible interpretations
