Actually I think it is the Americans that the song refers too. Joey is right...It is about the Indian Massacres. Reasons why I disagree with Drav: 1. The English did not fight the Indians on the plains, they never made it that far west. 2. "Soldier BLUE on the barren wastes". Everyone knows that the British were redcoats and the Americans were blue. I really don't think they are sympathetic or not sympathetic. I think they are just narrating it from each sides point of view. They seem to remain neutral to me. |

I agree with what's been said. I would also like to express my anger at Papa Roach for stealing the riff and using it in Last Resort. Great song by a great band! Gotta love Maiden. |

Is it about the Battle of Britain? I know that the spitfires were British during WW2 but i don't know if the ME-109's were German or not. It would make sense that they were though. The air raid siren, scrambling to get airborne to fight...sounds a lot like the Battle of Britain to me. |

I don't think it is about WW 1. It refers to muskets and the use of horses. "The smell of acrid smoke and horses breath" It also refers to the Russians which is why I am guessing that you think it is a world war. I would guess that it is based on the French attempted invasion into Russia under Napoleon. |
