Radiohead – Talk Show Host Lyrics 7 years ago
I think this song is about a person who is afraid of getting close to people or finds it difficult but wants very badly to feel close to someone at the same time.

The first time the verse sings "you want me?" They're speaking of being at the ready to shoot anyone down who tries to reach them even if they have to metaphorically wait up all night with food- they are always on their guard to distance themselves from people by throwing up their spikes and pushing them away.

This first verse has a bit of a paranoid vibe to it as well. Because of the tone in which it is being sung it also sounds like the person singing it is always worried that people are out to hurt them/ out to get them- thus furthering their isolation.

The song states they'll be waiting with nothing because they are isolated or because they believe they are nothing and will not be enough for someone once they do let them in/ get to know them.

The second verse is an explanation that if someone wants to get to know them they're going to have to kick some walls/ doors down. It is a plea for someone to get close to them that is made evident by the strain in his voice when the verse is sang through gritted teeth.

It could also be a descent into paranoia so bad that they are becoming a little desperate and now starting to challenge someone to hurt them.

The above can sometimes create more situations for someone to be paranoid/hurt/ lonely and feed into a persons psychological illness or paranoia/ emotional turmoil. Either way it can feel almost out of their control.

I think this person looks at the birds and longs to feel free of these feelings/patterns. They have a hard time feeling fulfilled and so they often feel like they are just floating along life.

Amanda Palmer – The Bed Song Lyrics 7 years ago
"Is this a matter of worse or of better?" To me means she is wondering " is this how things are supposed to be?"... and if so are things going well or are they going badly?

Often times in relationships it's hard to tell. In theory things seem to be going well for them- they are gaining material success and moving up the socioeconomic ladder ( they make a good "team" so to speak) quite possibly a " for better" situation. But on the other hand they are growing apart emotionally and that can be very painful "for worse".
