John Mellencamp – Check It Out Lyrics

@[kickstart71:32787] Tried to give your comment a +1 but it wouldn’t let me. Probably way too many years ago. Your comment was right on point. One of my favorite lines of any song is the one you mentioned “can’t tell your best buddy that you love him “. It does sum it up quite a bit. I’m at a point in my life that I can tell my close male friends that I love them. When I was younger (63 now) there was no way I would say that. Straight guys just didn’t say that to another guy. Growing up means being able to get honest with yourself and others and owning your shit. Thanks for your comment |

@[SusanBassPlayer:32786] I agree with your thoughts on this song. I’m surprised that I found only your comment. Absolutely one of his best! Mellencamp’s lyrics are very honest. Another one of my favorites is ‘Check It Out’. Again very honest and as you stated deep. |

The Replacements – Swingin' Party Lyrics

I think that could be correct. I'm a recovering addict and some of the lyrics could point to addiction in my opinion. "Quittin' school and goin' to work" sounds like me. Somebody had to pay for the drugs. And "never learn how to swim" to me sounds like how many times we would sit around the table talking about all the things we were going to do, or learn, etc. 99% of the time we didn't do sh*t And I did feel very weak knowing I had to have the drugs. Actually I didn't have the drugs, the drugs had me. |
