The Smashing Pumpkins – Ava Adore Lyrics 3 years ago
My interpritation: so this song reminds me about a relationship with a significant other. Basically, the guy shows much more attention towards the girl, and the girl feels overwhelmed sometimes, and this song describes how the girl feels, in the man's eyes.

The fact that "It's you that I adore / You'll always be my whore" sounds all too common. I mean theres usually a sexual component to a long term relationship. Its like the man dosen't have any other way to express his sexual desires, other than towards his girl.

"We must never be apart"
- is an all to familiar thing he keeps saying to her, and that scares the girl sometimes. The fact that the word *must* is used here implies just how prominent the girl is in the man's mind, and how it can become harmful for the relationship. He cannot stand to be alone even for a second. The girl keeps contemplating taking a few days off not talking to the man, and the man threatens to leave her because they "must never be apart", the man is too dependant on her.

"Lovely girl, you're the beauty in my world
Without you, there are no reasons left to find"

- the man's life has been plagued with many heartbreaks and other potential facrors in his life have led him to become too dependant on other women to fuffil his sense of purpose and belinging in this world. The girl leaving him would cause the man so much emotional trauma that he would probably become very depressed and even commit suicide.

"You'll be a lover in my bed
And a gun to my head"

- the man's obsession with the woman is overwhelming him. its causing his life to become unstable because she is all he thinks about. He craves her presence, sexual traits, everything about her. And when he dosent get it, he lets the idea of her consume him and eat him from the inside, leading to more self destruction and relational drama.

"In you, I crash cars"
- this line really hits me close to home. What i haven't told yet is that everything I'm talking about is based on a relationship I am currently in, where I am the girl that gets overwhelmed by the man's unhealthy fixation on her.
Me and my partner got in a fight once. We both got really upset, and I left his texts on read for a few hours and turned off my phone. What i didnt realize until i talked to him later was that, in the time I turned of my phone, he got very drunk. He went driving around with his friend, and totaled his friend's car. I think his friend got injured pretty bad in the wreck as well. He told me he did that because he was scared I was going to leave him just cause I left him on read. Fuck, that line hits me really close to home. I don't want him to destroy himself like that just because of a fight. I mean, Ive done stupid shit out of relationship fights, but in the end its always fixed. Fights happen. And maybe sometimes one crashed cars.

Nine Inch Nails – The Downward Spiral Lyrics 5 years ago
I believe that the protagonist does NOT commit suicide in the song, however i think he attempts it. The quiet before the mad guitar and yelling symbolizes the protagonist thinking about suicide and how he is gonna do it, and also perhaps his first actions... then when the yelling and guitar starts, he THATS when he makes the attempt. "So much blood for such a tiny hole", shows that he has done damage on himself. Also, the yelling in the songs represents his thoughts running wild while trying to kill himself, yells of desperation and angst and it just tells you the protagonist has had enough of it all. The next song on the album, Hurt, its a compilation of what the protagonist just tried to do.
