Queen – Another One Bites The Dust Lyrics 7 years ago
@[Italian:19429] Phaethon Any fool knows all that backward masking is bullshit. (Accept for Pink Floyd (Goodbye Blue Sky), but that's obvious--and IAC not at all satanic.)

That said, no one can tell me Turning Japanese is not about masturbation...I mean, come on...

The Moody Blues – After You Came Lyrics 7 years ago
The lyrics seem to refer to a partner who's preoccupied with career concerns, ambitions, or some such thing, and who is thus unavailable. The firs chorus also seems to suggest that this unavailable partner may be depressed because of these preoccupations. And they do seem to be a matter of career--dreaming of a ceiling, not a home.

Peter Murphy – Cuts You Up Lyrics 7 years ago
This seems to be like so many songs, especially really good ones, in that it leaves itself open to interpretation. It could be about a love relationship, or about depression, or even a variety of other things someone might be struggling with. I look at it more generally, as dealing with the trials and tribulations of life, its unpredictability, your attempts to get the upper hand with the problems of the day, and son on.

As such, I do get a bit of inspiration from it. And to Tithonus's comment: Yes, now that you mention it, the strings and overall sound do remind me a lot of The Sensual World. Come to think of it, I suppose this was Kate's "goth" phase. (-:

INXS – Original Sin Lyrics 8 years ago
I've long wondered about this song. Now I've seen lots of commentary about this or that aspect of it, but still find it a mystery. INXS being an Australian band, I would think "white boy, black girl" refers to Australian aborigines--although presumably if could work just as well for African-Americans, or South Africans, heck, maybe even Gypsies in some places. (In Ireland, at one time, even being "black Irish" (that is, some Spanish ancestry) could make you an outcast.)

But what is that line about a murder committed "in the name of love"? Is that about a real event?

The Guess Who – No Time Lyrics 8 years ago
The best songs always leave a huge amount of room for interpretation. I always thought it was a breakup song, but it could about any kind of breakup. For me, this is the ultimate petulance song; put it together with The Main Source's "Lookin' at the front door," and it's perfect. But for some, it could so well be about employment (take this job and shove it). Or being kidnapped to go to Nam. Or whatever you want.

Echo and the Bunnymen – Seven Seas Lyrics 8 years ago
This has always seemed to me like it was probably relating to Charles Darwin's voyage on the Beagle, especially the Galapagos. But I look at the lyrics, and don't see more than a couple of lines that really support that. So maybe it is, maybe not.

Book of Love – I Touch Roses Lyrics 8 years ago
Like so many great songs, this leaves interpretation mostly to the listener. It could be a putdown of someone who is jealous of someone's talent. That's one possibility. But I prefer to think of it as more like "Trying to figure out how I do what I do is futile. Don't try to analyze it; I don't even know myself how it works. Just enjoy it."
