Twenty One Pilots – Holding on to You Lyrics 8 years ago
I think it's kinda a breakup song. Wether it's a break up between him and another physical person or if it's faith or a concept (I speculate that he tries to make it relatable to both so that listeners can find their own meaning in it), he goes from this more upbeat mood, saying that he's "back in control, no more shotty" he's done with that it is that he's left and feels free, but like any other guy, that sense of freedom is short-lived and he finds himself wanting it back, continuing to hold on, glorifing it in his mind like a kaleidoscope.
He then starts to realize what he's doin to himself and tries to teach himself to control his pain like a new pet owner might try to self-teach a dog (the reference of tying it to a tree and demanding obedience)
The rap I feel is him kinda breaking the fourth wall and saying "see? This actually means something. I'm sick of all the meaningless music out there."

Twenty One Pilots – The Judge Lyrics 8 years ago
@[JCGJON:6252] to add upon the concept of being "set free" as wanting to die, suicide is one of the worst sins in Christianity, second only to murder. Which supports the lines:
"I don't know if this song
Is a surrender or a revel
I don't know if this one
Is about me or the Devil "
He wants to return to God, but will the very act send him to Hell?

Twenty One Pilots – The Judge Lyrics 8 years ago
@[JCGJON:5745] might I just add that this song I believe is also themed with his depression (as many are), that being "set free" is hoping to die. That he's kinda saying that he wants to leave the earth and go back to live with God. Like "I know you're to judge on when I return, but please make it soon"

Twenty One Pilots – Goner Lyrics 8 years ago
It's most definitely a cry out to God (at the end it's quite literal). I think he believes his sinful side (Blurry) has doomed him, making him a goner and caused him to slip further away from God.

In the second verse he starts blaming Blurry saying that he's the side of him that's doing all the wrong but that that's not truly how he is, that's not what he wants.

Blurry makes him feel inside out and when Blurry is in charge, Blurry is on top, it seems that nothing can stop him. Tyler feels lost and hopeless. He feels that God might only see Blurry and what Blurry does but doesn't know the true Tyler anymore and that makes him feel like he'll soon be gone if he doesn't defeat Blurry.

It seems a lot that this is kinda Tyler's way of repenting, crying out for forgiveness (he makes it very clear that he is religious in and outside of his music).

Twenty One Pilots – Ride Lyrics 8 years ago
I love the rap in this one. Tyler often just puts out a small rant on a given subject that seems to bother him or be on his mind like this one. He kinda just talks about walking the walk and how so many people are just all about the talk.
"'I'd die for you', that's easy to say...but I don't seem to see many bullets coming through"
It's easy to say that we'll be there through thick and thin when things are good. How many times do people say things of such intensity that are clearly not something they'd likely ever have to prove?
He then makes it more personal by saying "'I'd live for you', and that's harder to do". How is that more personal? Because he suffers from depression. For someone who wants to die it's a more powerful and legitimate promise to stay alive for someone instead of selfishly "dying for someone" and taking the easy way out.
At the end he then of course drops those intense rhetorical questions of "who would you live for?
Who would you die for?
And would you ever kill?"
Of course he doesn't meant literally kill, but instead more along the lines of making one of these extreme promises to someone just to eventually fail them, or "kill" them.
Some of the most impactful lyrics by Tyler and something that has really made me stop and think.

Twenty One Pilots – Tear in My Heart Lyrics 8 years ago
@[misstori123:5620] to add to your analysis, the parts about him and her in the car, I believe that he puts this bit in there to make it more personal. Like, yeah, anyone can say "she's the tear in my heart" but his love for her is the kind where he even goes out of his way to make sure bumps and potholes in the road don't wake her up when she's sleeping in the car. It's a sweet, caring love that he has for her.
