Yes – To Be Over Lyrics 6 years ago
The last verse really surprised me because it seems like surrendering your heart to Jesus, no turning back, be ready to be loved by God.

Or at least that's what I saw there considering I'm Christian. Probably not the original intent, but whatever, I like it.

That is way more profound than other yes songs that I have looked into.

Men at Work – No Restrictions Lyrics 8 years ago
I'm not sure if this is at all accurate so if you'd like to help, please do.

So to me, it seems like it has Lebowski-esque lyrics. Being lazy, and being happy with it.

(Don't Speak of Tomorrow, when it's still today)
(Leave me to my selfish ways, I'm well enough alone/That is what I tell myself when I stumble home)
(Sit and stare for hours, and cheer Dennis Lillee)

Stuff like that tells me that this song is giving no restrictions, but it doesn't matter. He's not going to break any of the previous restrictions. Its a good song, but these lyrics are weird.

Billy Idol – Dancing With Myself Lyrics 8 years ago
I notice on these songs by Billy idol, most people before 2007 say "This is sick, it's about incest" or "It's a sex song" "It's about shaking the dick" and then the comments after it are usually more defensive.

I can see some being about sex because Billy Idol was having lots of sex during the 80's and 90's so I wouldn't doubt it. But then again some of them are too extreme. Some people think that White Wedding is actually about incest.

Billy Idol – White Wedding Lyrics 8 years ago
@[pcbhunter:10675] Well, I think wolfegirl got it right in saying " His sister got pregnant by a guy she wasnt married to and they had a "shotgun" wedding--they call it that because people try to get married really quickly so that no one will suspect they had sex out of wedlock, just maybe had a premature birth. He is her "superman" because hes her big brother and trying to protect her. It's sort-of his apology for not being there for her to help her learn how to face the real world now that shes grown up."

It is true that Billy Idol was having tons of sex during the 80's and 90's, but not with his sister. Why would he announce that he has sex with his sister in a song?

Men at Work – It's A Mistake Lyrics 8 years ago
@[thecrossbone:10563] I am 16, but I really like the 80's. To me they seemed like a very very fun and exciting time (minus the cold war part of it) Did it seem like a fun time because everyone wanted to make the most out of the end of their life? Since you actually know would you tell me?

Tears for Fears – Everybody Wants to Rule the World Lyrics 8 years ago
I'm looking at this and it is a story with a meaning.
This is my interpretation of this song so it probably has some holes in it. I tried to best describe the song's lyrics through this story while sometimes using actual lines to help draw the parallels between the song and the story. The last part is my analysis of the story.

(Welcome to your life, there's no turning back. Even while we sleep, we will find you acting on your best behavior, turn your back on mother nature, Everybody Wants to Rule the World)

This part is about the speaker (we will call him AL) and AL sees this one guy (Bill) who is in a business. Al is some sort of inspector or employee who is involved with Bill's company quite a bit. Al finds out that Bill is doing shady business practices in order to cut taxes, and increase profit. Al comments by saying Everybody wants to rule the world.

(It's my own design, It's my own remorse. Help me to decide, help me make the most of freedom and the pleasure nothing ever lasts forever, everybody wants to rule the world)

Bill finds out about Al knowing his secret. Bill immediately finds Al and makes an offer to split the money saved so that everything is quiet. Al is unsure, and finally decides to take the offer because he wants to make most of the freedom and the pleasure.

(There's a room where the light won't find you. Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down. When they do I'll be right behind you)

Al is confronted by some sort of investigator about the speculation of shady business practices made by Bill. The investigator says that nothing bad will happen to you if you admit everything. Al has to watch Bill's reputation fall.

(So glad we almost made it, so sad they had to fade it. Everybody wants to rule the world)

[This is in prison because Bill has been sentenced for a year] Al is discussing with Bill about how they had something going, but then the operation fell through.

(I can't stand this indecision, Married with a lack of reason. Everybody wants to rule the world)

Al admits his guilt to Bill about how he committed to the deal without thinking as much because Al just wanted money.

(say that you'll never never never never need it. One headline why believe it? Everybody wants to rule the world.)

Bill is upset about Al's disloyalty and Al is defensive. Al says that we would've been fine without the extra money. The newspaper said that Bill will never work again, but Al wants to comfort Al in saying why believe it? [As a side note. Al is feeling defensive/scared but he is also convinced that Bill is right for being sent to prison, but Bill knows that the article is right)

(All for freedom and for pleasure, nothing ever lasts forever, everybody wants to rule the world.)

Al, after a while forgets the whole ordeal and goes back to his ways of trying to fulfill his pleasures.

So we learned that Al takes advantage of Bill and Al takes less of a blow than Bill, but he doesn't correct his ways because after all, Al did only receive money out of the whole deal. Nothing bad happened to Al. He is the one who wants to rule the world but its not just him. Bill and other people similar to Al and Bill also want to rule the World.

The thing that neither of them learned, is that nothing ever lasts forever. Even those pleasures that they risk everything pursuing. That is the lesson of this song. A temporary pride or power that runs the risk of losing everything is always less than a reward that is long-term.

To me it's a song about forward thinking.
