Alanis Morissette – You Oughta Know Lyrics 5 years ago
Basically, Alanis is portraying a very clingy, possibly narcissistic woman who did nothing but swing on the poor guys nuts demanding attention... And he got pissed off with her, met someone much more suitable, someone not so clingy and annoying.

I say this because I was once 'the guy', dating this hellcat of a woman who was way too clingy for my liking. So I finished with her and met someone else after a few weeks. She found out and I had so many phone calls begging me to take her back.

Yeah, I like the song, but it reminds me of that ex that is thankfully, far enough out of my life.

Dave Edmunds – Girls Talk Lyrics 5 years ago
Great song that my dad used to make me listen to on the radio in car during the late 70's.

Sounds like to me it's about women in general who like to gossip amongst themselves. And maybe Dave Edmunds is talking about one particular girl who he loves but when she gossips with her pals he's like "Time for a Beer"

Iron Maiden – Aces High Lyrics 5 years ago
It is indeed about the Battle of Britain, the battle where we the British really put the shits up Adolf and made him think "We messed with the wrong country." A real kick in his Bollock (yes he only had ONE).

It also compliments the sheer bravery of the pilots of the RAF, one of which was my grandfather, who was credited with three kills (All ME-109's) when flying his Spitfire during the Battle of Britain. He loved the lyrics to this song, but he told me he would have liked to have heard Vera Lynn sing it ;).

Anyway, the message is simple, Hitler was a cowardly bastard and we smashed his Luftwaffe to smithereens with good old Bulldog spirit.

@[jkid1190:24472] I don't think their parents 'don't approve' I just think they're conservative. So sneaking away to make out is the only way they can be together without their parents watching over them.

I know, I've been there, my dad's best mate's daughter, we were 14 and whenever our parents got together for an event we'd sneak off somewhere dark and make out like crazy... Good days.

Meat Loaf – Paradise by the Dashboard Light Lyrics 6 years ago
Basically, it's about a guy lookin' to lose his virginity and is so desperate to do so he pledges his life to the girl willing to lay him. And he goes through life regretting it but is man enough to keep his promise so stays with her even though he can't stand her.

Meat Loaf – Paradise by the Dashboard Light Lyrics 6 years ago
Complicated song structure with an obvious (to us men anyway) meaning.

Young fella wants to get laid, is really, REALLY horny, and I mean absolutely gagging for it. Girl is up for it but wants commitment, gives him an ultimatum and he's thinking with his balls and boom! Ruins his life for a shag.

Happens to us all...

Anyway, genius song writing from Stienman. Take a simple and obvious thing like being young and getting laid and turning it into a masterpeice of a song.

AC/DC – Who Made Who Lyrics 6 years ago
First off, Stephen King is a huge fan of AC/DC, and this song was indeed written for Maximum Overdrive.

The song itself is more or less about our reliance on technology and how technology is making us slaves to it rather it to us (if that makes sense), and in a sense the song is 'reminding' humanity that WE made the Technology that we're slaves to, WE invented all this shit we're so reliant on and WE should control it and not it control us.

It's like Technology is getting cocky and Brian is saying 'Excuse me? Who made Who? Ain't nobody told you you're here to serve us?' as a slap in the face to technology.

The Who – My Generation Lyrics 6 years ago
The drugs Mods used to take back in the UK in the 60's (Black Bombers, Blues, Purple Hearts, Speed) used to make them stutter. Hence why Rog' stuttered during whilst singing this song. Pete did indeed write this song after an old lady made a comment about 'Driving Mummy's car', he was pissed off with that, I would be also (and I'm 42 now).

Not all Mods popped pills, my dad was a Mod back in the 60's and he said he'd rather spend his money on his Lambretta (which he still has, and rides) and used to get his kicks beating up Rockers on Bank holiday weekends. All Mods were into The Who, The Kinks (not so much The Beatles, my dad says only girls and poofs used to listen to them... his words not mine) but he did like Cilla Black.

Watch the movie Quadrophenia to get an insight into this culture, it covers it well.

The Who – Pictures Of Lily Lyrics 6 years ago
Like a few songs written and performed by The Who, this one was banned by the BBC because it indeed was about masturbation (the other songs being 'My Generation', because of 'I hope I die before I get old'. And Pinball Wizard, because of the 'Deaf, Dumb and Blind kid' line, the BBC thought it was sick.)

So yes, this song is about banging one out over porn. Least the kid got some sleep though.

The Jam – The Bitterest Pill Lyrics 7 years ago
Paul Weller wrote this for a joke, but hardly anyone understood it and thought he was cracking up.

He was saying all the New Romantic stuff that was coming out at the time was a piece of cake to write. So he wrote it to prove that he could write a soppy love song.

Personally, I think the song is great. First girl I ever danced with was to this song. I was only 7 at the time so I didn't understand the lyrics, but still...

The Jam – Funeral Pyre Lyrics 7 years ago
This is about the racism of the early 80's in Britain, the NF marches, the race riot in South London. The 'fire/burning books' that Weller sings of, represents the hatred between whites and blacks, and the throwing away of earlier unity of the late 60's when everyone was listening to reggae.

"As I was standing by the edge, I could see the faces of those who led pissing themselves laughing"

That basically means all the hatred was orchestrated by the government (or the Illuminati) and they were loving the results (The riots and the hatred)

The Jam – Eton Rifles Lyrics 7 years ago
This song is more of a stab at the SWP than the Eton College. Paul is basically saying that the SWP talk the talk but can't walk the walk.

"What a catalyst you turned out to be,
Loaded the guns then you run off home for your tea"

The SWP organisers got all the workers riled up to take on the social elite and the aristocracy, and then pegged it when they got their arses handed to them.

Perhaps Paul should re-write the Lyrics for AntiFa?

Love this song. Great song to listen to before going out on the piss during spring and looking forward to those warm summer nights to come.

The Jam – Town Called Malice Lyrics 8 years ago
I was 7 years old when this song came out in '82. I had no idea what it was about but the baseline grabbed me and took me somewhere else.

It's about growing up in a Working-Class suburb like Woking (where the Jam hail from) and how nothing changes and when things do change, no body likes the change. Weller is basically saying, "Life will only get better if we let it, accept change and get on with your lives."

Oh, and to all the youngsters here who like this kind of music? Good on you! You may have missed one of the greatest decades in history but you're keeping the spirit of it alive with the music.

Bob Seger – Shakedown Lyrics 8 years ago
Great song from a great movie.

The song is about crime and the glamour that comes with it, Bob is singing from the point of view of a relentless cop who's basically saying that "You may be flying high, but I'll get you sooner or later"

Shakedown=The cop coming after the criminal
Breakdown=The Criminal's glamorous lifestyle coming to an end
Takedown=The cop makes his move, catching the criminal in the act
You're busted=Speaks for itself.

Breaking Point – One Of A Kind Lyrics 8 years ago
This song is awesome.

It's about a guy who's been walked over by others his whole life, and he decides to finally stick up for himself.

"I've got that feeling deep inside
Well what it is I don't know
My vengeance starts to change
My mind gets filled with rage
I raise my fists up to the sky"

This is the moment he says "Enough is enough, taste my wrath!"

"The fear I see when I look in your eyes
Makes you believe I'm one of a kind (one of a kind)
The fear I leave in the back of your mind
Makes you believe I'm
One of a kind"

This is how he leaves those he's standing up to, he realises he's a lot stronger than he gave himself credit for and his confidence has taken a massive boost.

"And now I feel like I'm alive
Don't know just how I got so low
These voices in my mind
Tell me it's killing time
It is a thrill I can't describe"

He's obviously done some damage to one or two people (Physical or Psychological? depends on how you look at it) and now he feels truly alive, and wonders why he let people bully him. He's now ready to take down everyone who's bullied him.

We've all been there, lack of confidence, flash of rage, sweet victory. Best feeling you can get after a lifetime of getting held down by the man or getting bullied.

I can't relate to this song, my dad has been there for me all throughout my childhood, and is still there when I need him at the grand old age of 39 (soon to be 40). He and my mum are still happily married and he's beaten heart disease and bladder cancer.

This song reminds me how damn lucky I am to have a good man like him as my father. From the moment I could walk he taught me everything I could ever need (how to fight, how to talk to women, how to get my arse out of bed to get to work and how to provide for my family etc).

I feel for any fella that lost their dad. I'm glad mine was there for me. This awesome song reminds me that I may have been the man I am today if he hadn't been there, but I'm damn lucky he was there.

@[sivilla:3771] I agree, Funeral Pyre was their last angry (and angriest) song. After that it was more 'Lets try protesting' instead of 'Lets spit and rage'.

After 81, Paul wanted to take the band in a different direction, less spit and more soul. Bruce and Rick didn't agree and that's why the band split a year later. One of the darkest days in music when they split, I was only seven in '82 and I was a massive Jam fan,

The Jam – David Watts Lyrics 9 years ago
This song is about overachievers. We had a name for 'em back in the day, and that name was 'Golden Bollocks'... Basically someone that was good at everything.

David Watts is said 'Golden Bollocks' in this song. The singer is narrating how he would like to be like him, but I think there's a hint of sarcasm in the tone of the singer (Davies and Foxton, yes I'm aware it was originally done by the Kinks). So the singer is basically being a sarky git for anti-establishment purposes whist David Watts, is a bit of a ponce.

"The video game says "Play me"
Face it on a level but it takes you every time on a one on one
Feeling running down your spine
Nothing gonna save your one last dime cause it owns you
Through and through"

I can relate to this^. When the song came out I was like, 11. Spent all my pocket money on Coin-Op video games.

"The databank knows my number
Says I gotta pay cause I made the grade last year
Feel it when I turn the screw
Kicks you round the world, there ain't a thing that it can't do
Do to you"

This^ reminds me of when you phone up a bank to make an enquiry and it tells you to 'hold...push 4 for option 4' and all that shit. Then you end up in a call centre god-knows-where talking to someone with no human emotion whatsoever.

Yep, awesome song about having to deal with tech and crap.

I'm not sure if I'm correct but I can very well imagine this song being about incest, a father abusing and raping his own daughter, and it ends in suicide.

"Her eyes filled as she loaded the weapon
Her mind racing she cried"

Obviously she's found her father's gun and she either shoots herself, which is more likely, or plans to kill her father with it.

Great song, very thought provoking. This song got me into Feeder. And yes I first heard it on Grand Tourismo

This song is about friendship. One friend is constantly getting off his head and it's affecting his life, he wants to break away from his circle so as not to drag them down while he sorts his life out. On the other hand his friends are 'Blaming themselves' for not doing anything sooner to help him out and are basically saying 'No, we're going to go through this shit together'.

'I guess you think it's funny now' is the whole group some time later looking back and laughing about it.

The song does have a happy ending vibe, hence why it's a great song.

The song is about the Saturday night ritual for young, working class men.

First and second verses refer to the telly watching (a western and the Sweeny) before heading out

Third verse is refers to getting down the pub, getting drunk and livening up for the evening.

The dreamy like instrumental represents him leaving the pub (smashed off his tits) and making his way to the Disco.

Fourth verse is him scoring with a girl, taking her home, giving her one, and then making his excuses and leaving in the morning for a fry up and a cuppa.

Great song to listen to when your getting dressed for a night out with the lads back in the day..

Nickelback – Never Again Lyrics 9 years ago
This song is about Domestic Violence seen through the eyes of the family's child. Chad is singing from the kid's point of view, a kid that knows hitting women is wrong and is planning to one day (when he's big enough) to beat his dad up and get his mother out of the relationship. I'm guessing that the kid is like, 12 or 13 years old, old enough to know right from wrong but too young to protect his mother.

The lyric "Father's a name you haven't earned yet
You're just a child with a temper
Haven't you heard "don't hit a lady"
Kickin' your ass would be a pleasure" is basically the kid confronting his dad and saying, "I'm more man than you, and when I'm big enough I'm going to smash your face in."

Unfortunately he never gets the chance as his mom shoots his dad defending herself.

Amazing song.

Animal Alpha – Bundy Lyrics 9 years ago
This song is about a woman who suffers domestic abuse, she's had enough and she's going to have her abuser beaten up or killed.

The lyric 'I'm bringing Bundy's, have they met you' refers to either some male friends or brothers who she's told that her partner is abusing her and they are obviously seething (Bundy=mental/angry). The Lyric is referring to angry men looking for revenge.

I wouldn't want to be in that poor sucker's shoes when the Bundy's get hold of him.
