@[Kendreeke:5361] I think your interpretation is very one dimensional. It's just like you're calling someone with depression or PTSD worthless, maybe it's you who's forgetting theyre human? The interlude is the most tranquil part of the song. It has a sound of submission and withdrawl, isolation. If someone doesnt recieve enough oxygen, how can they breathe? If someone doesnt recieve enough love and respect, how can they emotionally develop as a person? One kills the body, the other kills the mind. His problems are simple and clear when he can take a step back, maybe these are moments he realizes that god has already died within himself. Moving the ground implies that one has power, but yet is still walking in place. Moving ones mouth implies a functioning body, yet a hollow body at that. Looking around implies curiosity, yet looking down shows the curiosity isnt seeking any answers. He has the power, but somewhere along his life all these actions became meaningless. He can walk, but he has nowhere to go. He can talk but he has nothing to say. He can ponder but theres nothing to think about. Its much easier for someone to hide being abrasive violent behavior/music, than it is to face their real problems. In some miraculous beatiful break in music, we're able to see who cowboy dan really is, emotions cant last forever.... he's speaking in aphorisms to convey his own somber cries. Internally it's an apology, as much as people might deny that. I think thats the epitome of sympathy. Its no glorious battle, and that the same time it isnt a ruthless conquering of peoples; its a brain thats trying to function... a heart thats trying to work, an engine thats trying to start running. The city is functioning as an emotionally stable world, with emotionally stable people. He rejects this world because it's not the way he understands, alcohol fueled anger is just denial that something is wrong about him/you/me/anyone. It's on the offensive because people dont want to seem weak confused and scared, they want to give the impression that they are strong, and have control of their life. The native americans were sent to reservations when their land was stripped from them. Cowboy Dan headed to the reservation when his emotional wellbeing was stripped from him. | I think the song is about not being self aware of what draws people to love, the narrator thinks by getting good at guitar (an allegory for really getting skillful at anything) in the intent of winning someone over will inevitably be futile, like maybe the narrator already had somebody that they were in love with but scared them away for certain reasons, but is too myopic to see those and rather thinks by getting good at guitar (as opposed to addressing what really took them apart) they'll get their girl back and be happy or whatever | |

Obviously this song extends past simply Washington DC, its a commentary on what people truly find important and makes life worth living, he virtually wrote a whole album about this.. Theres so much beauty in the world but none of it could ever come close to the internal beauty someone can invoke in you My favorite part "It ain't no famous name on a golden plaque That makes me ride that railroad track It's my baby's kiss that keeps me coming back" Really nails down a metaphor of life (by the train) being much more driven by love/emotions (my baby's kiss) instead of names on a plaque (knowledge/fame/etc), at least in most people. Look up the surrogate mother experiment with monkeys Honestly an extremely beautiful song, whereas you might see sarcasm in the listing of accolades I see immense beauty, the contrast emphasizes the pure power of love, a universe and eternal force driving humans to jump on a damn train |

Pretty sure its about the endless existence of love... something chemical that has existed for all time and has driven virtually all live to keep existing (in this case humans) White and black as an allusion to yin and yang, which if you think about it... is just basically a glorified 69, I put these dots together some point looking at the album cover Another angel of this is how the world itself can mirror love/ relationships "love music wine and revolution" especially in revolutions.. hella people die, hella change is so instantaneously sort of like changing/dying relationships but they are only transitions and love (as some unspoken force that drives humanity forward) remains and the majority after succeeding are a bit happier(?) I'm pretty sure its obvious this song is about being madly in love with someone... emphasis on the madly. So much so that you devote so much time and effort into showing them appreciation, buying/making them gifts, or even just thinking about them.. I find myself in a similar situation right now It might seem a little off putting to the other person hence the "Crazy for you... but not that crazy" trying to reaffirm that its just the love he feels is so deep that he's acting in what might seem an abnormal way but still considers himself "normal" but obviously the hyperboles in the lyrics make it a tad bit to believe. Then again who can blame him? |
