Hozier – Jackie and Wilson Lyrics 9 years ago
@[teaspill:3171] Lol, I also think all of Hozier's lyrics are very depressing. He writes in the most realistic way, not sugar-coating anything. Your explanation is very nice and in-depth. Thanks. :)

@[teaspill:3170] Wow. It really sounds like you went through this. I'm really sorry if that is true. Your interpretation is very eye-opening. Thank you for taking the time to write that.

Hozier – Cherry Wine Lyrics 9 years ago
@[DewCart:3169] I truly interpreted the "open hand or closed fist" as very literal, meaning either something can approach open handed, with open arms... meaning they are very kind, understanding and supportive, or a close fist, referring to getting angry, being closed off, throwing tandrums, or physically abusive.

How did you explain "Thrown at me so powerfully
Just like she throws with the arm of her brother"? He literally meant she can throw a good punch like her brother. If that's not indicative of a physically abusive relationship, I don't know what is. Also, "It looks ugly, but it's clean,
Oh momma, don't fuss over me." He is talking about his wound, saying it looks bad but he's fine, brushing it off like it's not a big deal. But it is nice to see it in a different light. However, she's also verbally abusive too, from "Her eyes and words are so icy
Oh but she burns
Like rum on the fire". Understanding Hozier, and knowing he wants to make a big impact with his music, such as raising awareness on gay rights and the church in "Take Me To Church", he also wants to raise awareness to the large number of men who are in physically abusive relationship, not just women.

@[oneloverequiem:3167] I agree. I bawled when I understood the meaning.

Avalanche City – Love Love Love Lyrics 9 years ago
This song, despite it's upbeat tune and cheesy lyrics, is surprisingly sad. Basically, it's another version of Romeo & Juliet, where two fated people want to start a life together, but because of difficulties such as money (he hopes they will have another day "where money and [their] time affords" them to be together) and other objections ("cause all the loudest voices in the world are never right") cause them to be torn apart. He just wanted "life to lean [their] way". He knows she likes him. He heard her heart yell "love love love", although how I have no idea. And he's obviously into her, because she was "heaven" when he saw her. So sad. :(
