Steve Winwood – Back In The High Life Again Lyrics 8 years ago
I can imagine it about a guy that had left his hometown for some time, whether it be to study at a university or serve in the military, and then returns home. He looks up his old friends and girlfriends and hanging out with them seems to be like old times. He discovers that his high school sweetheart is single as well and tells her that their new relationship (if they so decided to pursue one) would be better since they are both older and wiser.

Depeche Mode – Shake The Disease Lyrics 8 years ago
Ah yes, this song has to do with the effect a woman that a man knows can have on him. When it comes to the big things, he wants to say to her (Ask her out, say the "L" word for the first time, pop the question) he can get tongue-tied. Why? Nerves because of how big these events are, and also the fear of her shooting him down.

Depeche Mode – John The Revelator Lyrics 8 years ago
I'm thinking about a sermon my pastor recently gave that involved the book of Revelations. He said that there were two kinds of people when it comes to it; those who never get into it, and those who never get out of it (i.e., millennialists). I think that's what the song is referring to, the ones that can't get out of the book of Revelations.

This is a song that asks for fan fiction to be written about it (road trip, tour of cities along Route 66, etc).

Mumford & Sons – Whispers in the Dark Lyrics 8 years ago
I'm going to take a whack at this.

I believe this is referring to what led to Marcus's breakup with Laura Marling, and then what happened after that (his reunion with his now-wife, Carey Mulligan). "Fingers tap into what you were one, worried that I blew my only chance" refers to when they were pen pals, as kids. I can imagine him coming back from tour finding the letters he got from her and going through them, and thinking "I thought I lost my chance with you after I lost contact."

"A brush with the devil can clear your mind" means that it took doing something foolish to see that he shouldn't have been with her (Laura) in the first place. "I lost my head, but I found the one that I love under this sun" means "I messed up, but something good came out of it (I found the one that I was meant to be with the whole time).

Mumford & Sons – Broken Crown Lyrics 8 years ago
It's about the end of a relationship. It appears to be a bit of a "two-fingers-and-raspberry", as I like to call it, to an ex. I see the "crawl on my belly 'til the sun goes down" bit as a metaphor for doing something degrading or humiliating. In other words, "I don't care how humiliating it may be, I will have no further dealings with you." Or, to put it more strongly, "I don't care if you're the last person on earth, I'm never getting back with you!"

Mumford & Sons – Ghosts That We Knew Lyrics 8 years ago
I think this has to do with Carey Mulligan, Marcus Mumford's now-wife. The two were pen pals as children, lost contact, reunited as adults through a mutual friend, and became engaged rather quickly. She knew his insecurities as a child, didn't run away, didn't make fun of him or judge him. She merely listened. He's basically saying "Thank you for never judging me or making fun of me, for just being there for me when I was a mess, heck I'm still a bit of a mess. Now, I need you to be here for me as we start on something amazing."

Mumford & Sons – Broken Crown Lyrics 8 years ago
It's a debate between two people, who were in a relationship, ended it for whatever reason, and the song is being done from the point of view of the person who is being asked to get back with the other person. The author is saying "I don't care if you're the last person on Earth, I'll never get back with you, and how dare you talk about forgiveness after what you did to me (the person being addressed must have done something bad)!"

@[PabloK:5432] When someone is extremely weak, and they cannot walk, they have to crawl on their bellies to get around. It can be extremely degrading for an adult. In other words, no matter how humiliating or degrading it may be, I'm never going to have any dealings with you.

Blu Cantrell – Hit Em Up Style (Oops) Lyrics 8 years ago
It's another one of those "you get me I'll get you back" songs after finding out you've been cheated on, but with an interesting twist. The twist is that she empties her man's bank account after dumping him for cheating.

Mumford & Sons – Ditmas Lyrics 8 years ago
The time between "Babel" and "Wilder Minds" was a time of changes for Mumford and Sons, both musically and personally. On the musical front, they hit it big with "Babel", and earned them the coveted "Album of the Year" award at the Grammys. They also played Lollapalooza, the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado, and had their "Gentlemen of the Road Stopover" Tour. They then went a different direction with their latest album, "Wilder Minds", to mixed reviews from critics and fans alike.

There were many changes on the personal front as well. Marcus got married in 2012, and he and his wife Carey Mulligan are now expecting their first child, and Ben is now engaged. The song basically says that whilst a lot of things about them changed, they're still the same M&S we all know and love.

Mumford & Sons – After the Storm Lyrics 8 years ago
I first heard this song after I was discharged from the Army Reserve, in 2013. The line "Well I'm scared of what's behind and what's before" made me think of what happened. I wasn't happy about being discharged (medical reasons) because I didn't like the way my life was before I was in the Army (as a matter of fact, I cried on my last drill weekend).

Mumford & Sons – Lover of the Light Lyrics 8 years ago
I think it could be Marcus and Carey's love story, from the time they were kids (pen pals) to the time they became engaged, and later, married. The chorus may have been the end game for him from the beginning, to marry her.

@[DMLTM:4874] You might be on to something. Marcus had reunited with his childhood pen pal Carey Mulligan and they soon became engaged around the time the album was released. Whilst to them the little boy/girl they wrote back and forth to as kids will live on, they see each other differently as adults.

Elton John – Someone Saved My Life Tonight Lyrics 9 years ago
It's a well-established fact that it's about Bernie talking Elton out of getting married. In the song, there appears to be some "talking someone off the ledge ", so to speak. The "damn it! Listen to me good!" line sounds like someone telling another person to "snap out of it." The "sweet freedom" whispered in his ear is being advised to break up with her.

The Beatles – Blackbird Lyrics 9 years ago
@[domjohnson:2269] That makes sense, also, when you look at the title. "Bird" is British slang for "young woman". Taking that into consideration, the song could be about a black young woman.

Take That – The Flood Lyrics 9 years ago
I think it's about repairing relationships, friendships, that were thought to be broken beyond repair "Learning how to dance the rain" could mean "learning how to be friends again," and saying "now they'll never dance again", means that the ones saying that it couldn't be done are now eating their words.
