Slipknot – Disasterpiece Lyrics 9 years ago
@[foffof:4291] I don't believe that the speed of the bass drums can determine whether the song as a whole is good or not. Also, faster isn't necessarily better anyway.

Also, this has been an awkward 13 year pause, but whatever.

Shinedown – Cry For Help Lyrics 9 years ago
This song is about a drug addict, whom the narrator attempts to keep as a friend, but after all of the lying and cheating, it becomes very difficult. The narrator is fed up with the addict.

You've been hiding out for quite a while now
Living off of people you know
Trying to raise a little money to pay off all the monkeys
That you met inside the rabbit hole

(The person has been living off of others to survive and get money to support the addiction. The 'monkeys' are dealers.)

You're taking candy from the white witch
You're smoking tea with Mama Kin
Well, there's a wolf outside a brick house screaming
This time I'm gonna blow it in

(This references heroin (white witch) and marijuana (tea). The wolf is a dealer or the drugs, which are threatening to destroy the person's life.)

Because the mind is a weapon see
And it's got you on your hands and knees
Pull the trigger if you're gonna
We all know that you wanna
Count off 1, 2 (1, 2, 3)

(The addict's mind tells them to get more drugs, which makes the mind a weapon. The addict is 'down on his hands and knees' at this point. The addict basically has no will to live, so everyone knows that they want to pull the trigger on their life.)

[Chorus:]
You better pray that there's another way out
You better pray that someone's listening now
(Doesn't matter what you got)
'Cause when you lie like the devil himself
No angels gonna hear your
Cry for help!

(The addict better pray that they can get out because he has stopped listening because he just can't deal with the addict anymore. When the addict lies, no one can help them.)

I know you must really think it's funny,
You had everybody fooled in the end
Well, it's a little unassuming considering you knew me,
I'm the only one that called you a friend

(The addict thinks it's funny that they got people fooled into giving them money. He was the only friend the addict had, and now even he's gone.)

Because the mind is a weapon see
And it's got you on your hands and knees
Pull the trigger if you're gonna
We all know that you wanna
Count off 1, 2 (1, 2, 3)

[Chorus]

Count it off, 1, 2 (1, 2, 3)

[Chorus]

For help [Repeat: x3]

System of a Down – Aerials Lyrics 9 years ago
I interpreted this to be about the use of psychedelic drugs....

Life is a waterfall, (being on drugs can feel like falling down inside one)
We're one in the river, (multiple drug users are together in the same situation)
And one again after the fall. (everyone is one after falling and dying)

Swimming through the void (your life can become a void after extensive drug use)
We hear the word, (they hear stuff about the benefits of stopping the use)
We lose ourselves, (so much use that they are gone)
But we find it all? (but what they learn about life during the trips is everything)

Cause we are the ones that want to play, (they just want to chill and smoke)
Always want to go, (leave the situation to do drugs)
But you never want to stay, (no one wants to stay & talk to them)

And we are the ones that want to choose, (choose to do drugs or not, not have government make the decision with laws)
Always want to play, (always want to do drugs)
But you never want to lose. (but never want something bad to happen as a result)

Aerials, in the sky, (they are very high)
When you lose small mind, (you lose small thinking and think bigger on psychedelic drugs)
You free your life. (free yourself from the current world)

Life is a waterfall, (falling through life, moving through it, like being in a waterfall)
We drink from the river, (drink from the river of life>>taking drugs of life)
Then we turn around and put up our walls. (lost inside yourself, no communication to outside)

Swimming through the void
We hear the word,
We lose ourselves,
But we find it all?

Cause we are the ones that want to play,
Always want to go,
But you never want to stay,

And we are the ones that want to choose,
Always want to play,
But you never want to lose.

Aerials, in the sky,
When you lose small mind,
You free your life.
Aerials, so up high,
When you free your eyes, (free your eyes from bland sober earthliness and go the mind's antipodes with psychedelics)
Eternal prize. (drugs feel like a prize, always have and always will)
Aerials, in the sky,
When you lose small mind,
You free your life.
Aerials, so up high,
When you free your eyes,
Eternal prize.

@[NoseDragon:1345] This is almost spot-on to what my interpretation is. Except I don't think it's mostly about marijuana. I think it's mostly about any drug.

@[megnann:1343] Seems valid. Also similar to an addict's cycle of being high and sober with cravings.

Nirvana – Very Ape Lyrics 9 years ago
I interpreted this song to be about drugs in general. The song is full of paradoxes, which is a commonality in the world of drugs.

"I am buried up to my neck in
Contradictionary lies"

Drug users/abusers often experience lies of some sort. Either ones that they tell others or lies that they tell themselves. These can often contradict each other. The use of ‘dictionary’ and, later, ‘illiterature’ serves to create a theme.

"I take pride as the kind of illiterature
I'm very ape and very nice"

The first line I'm not very sure about. Being very ape can allude to the primitive, ape-like experience of being constantly in search of another fix. However, he is still a nice and kind person.

"If you ever need anything please don't hesitate
to ask someone else first"

Drugs can sometimes make people selfish. Some people will focus only on the drug, and will not do much else.

"I'm too busy acting like I'm not naive.
I've seen it all I was here first"

Being in a world of drugs can make one naive about what is really happening in the world. However, it can cause people to end up seeing and experiencing a lot of stuff that most people don't.

"Out of the ground
Into the sky
Out of the sky
Into the dirt"

This is the constant cycle of a drug abuser. Being in the sky is being high, being in the ground is being sober and craving more, and being in the dirt is likely being dead, which happens symbolically at the end of the song, and the end of an addict's life if they are unable to control themselves or receive treatment.
