This song was penned on a plane ride from Michigan back to Hollywood. The story goes that he was high on heroin and called his mom in Michigan and told her he was a heroin addict. She sent him a plane ticket to Michigan. After several missed flights he finally got on the plane after almost being busted. He flew home high on heroin, weighed 120lb and was a mess. He had a choice of doing a year rehab to come down slowly or a 20 day cold turkey rehab. He chose the 20 day rehab because he didn't want to be gone that long. He was about 23 y/o at the time. He said it was the first time he was sober since he was 11. On the way home This story comes straight from the book Scar Tissue. |

In Kiedis' book, Scar Tissue, he talked about his inspiration for the song. When they were on tour for their first album he met a girl in New Orleans. He described her looking like Marilyn Monroe with her blonde hair, eyes and red lips. He went up to her before anyone else could. She told him she went to Catholic school. If I remember correctly, he found out she was 14. |

I just read this. It was Anthony and Flea. The song is about their love for each other and his fondness for him. "It was our shoulder space That made the perfect place For the magic of the cup To style out with grace With a tight turn twist And a slight swerve swank The brothers cup kissed With a kick ass clank" As you said, they put cups on their jackets as a symbol of their friendship. "Don't be shy when you're sharin' your kisses The brothers cup kiss And we ain't sissies" The brothers cup here is Flea and Anthony. It basically says to show affection for one another. They do, they even kiss one another and it's not a homosexual act. "With the power of the cup we are about to astound All your preconceptions they will come unbound We are the brothers cup coming to your town Bringing tubs of love we're going to spread it around" You have to admire their close bond the two share. They are open about how they love one another and don't care if you think it's gay or not in the manly friendship sort of way. |
