To me this is about a relationship that might be intense as in "simmering songs never get plain". it's wonderful "tinsel dreams, sweet lemonade" very heartwarming... and then the following lines clearly that got screwed up and there's a sense of abandonment. "Curious schools mimicking fools" is one of the more curious lines of the song. To me it evokes study of psychology or psychiatry. Everything is seen very clinical and labeled and categorized but it's foolish because it isn't holistic. Western thought ignores the spirituality and mind/body connection. I've had many relationships impacted by mental illness and I wonder if how we deal with it as a society doesn't often impede healthy relationships. The line "this isn't control" could be about how that system isn't working or it could be about taking responsibility for your own actions in a relationship or it could just be about feeling out of control. Not really sure on that one... "What was the spell it feels like a curse Wonder if you could lead first" - this makes me think about a codependent relationship. they can seem like curses or spells and this person sounds exhausted by their role

@[steph50212:1662] I also want to add, because I forgot to address the first part. They listened in because they don't trust anybody. They never ever trust anyone. They know they are like this that's why the speaker goes out of their way to admit they are guilty. They know this is a habit for them. It might have just been a convo they weren't meant to hear. But they gleaned from this that the other person doesn't really love them. They almost have to leave before the other person does as soon as they know. "I have to go, yes I know the feeling, know you're leaving." This might be someone who never gets broken up with because they are always the first to run. Which sort of adds to this image that they are bad news.

I don't think of it is as simple as being just about cheating. I think about it as more of a very intimate personality profile of this woman with some serious walls. In a codependent relationship, which is probably what she had, she is the one that always pulls away. The one that everyone thinks is so strong because she's unable to show her vulnerability. She might do a fucked up thing like cheat or maybe she was just emotionally unavailable. Laying on your back could mean multiple things to me. Like as in getting shrinked, or being passive when there should be action or you know, cheating. She doesn't understand unconditional love that is why she has to make lists. In these codependent type relationships both are really abusive but this character is always seen as the bad guy, "the con" because the other partner isn't honest and forthcoming about their feelings and they are seen more like the victim. Everyone who dates this person actually really wants to see them cry. It's kind of hard to come by and reminds them that this person has emotions and feelings which can get hurt and everyone seems to forget that and think of them as invulnerable. In their head this person says "nobody will like me if I show them I am vulnerable" or they just cannot show it. They are terrified of not having control and that's just what has happened to them as their relationship implodes ironically. At the end of the day. This person just wants to be fucking held. "Encircle me". They know that they are seen as the bad guy, they internalize it. They think there might be something seriously wrong with them that they should be "taken down" because they know their habits hurt people.
