I heard this song a few days ago when I woke up before my boyfriend. Feeling sad about what we both knew was coming, I went outside to think alone. This came on the radio, and it spoke to my soul, making me cry at first, then peace and understanding washed over me. It's about being hurt numerous times throughout life, eventually becoming bitter. His words made me realize that no matter what someone does to you, acts in hurtful ways, or just can't give themselves to you, they are also human with a heart and are good in ways that drew is to them in the first place. It reminded me that holding on to anger only hurts both people worse. Forgive, let go, be friends, and remember to see the amazing things that other human being offers. Yes, the hurt you feel in your heart aches so much but truly letting go of that, not blaming, or looking at the other with angry eyes heals and will make not only you a happier person, but both of your lives will be richer. Listen to "See You in the Light" by him, as well. Therapeutic and uplifting even more than this amazing song. |

I completely agree. Ball= 8 ball. Biscuit (in these days) is referring to X. Disco biscuits in the 70's (as someone mentioned earlier) were "ludes", but in the last ten to 20 years, they became ecstasy. None the less, this song is soulful, sexy as hell, and one of my very favorite Stripes songs. |

It's about anyone, or anything for that matter, in which you would be willing to give up the limelight for. Friend, lover, spouse, sibling, parent, anyone who has touched your life so profoundly that you want them to feel as special or moved in the ways you are/have been that you will gladly hand over your spot. Unconditionally, unselfishly. "Just to feel alive" if only for a second. Maybe he realizes that this person would or could never obtain that position or feeling and he would gladly do that just to see them smile. I've felt this way and wished this for a few people in my life. Feel how I feel, truly grasp this emotion. I dream of everyone I know feeling the passion and soul stirring emotion I get about music. |

I have loved this song for such a long time. Even forgot about it until recently when a boyfriend (now ex) reminded me of it. Ironically he wrote about it and yet he is a narcissist in almost every sense of the word. This song could have been written for he and I. I digress, the song is so beautifully orchestrated, from music arrangement to lyrics and the backup singer as well. Madonnas voice is perfect and Babyface providing back up is soothing, melodic, and would not have been right for anyone else. The video!! WOW! While it is sad and I almost shed a tear every time I watch it now, Madonna looks amazing. When she "makes love" to him (or the tv screen) one last time is sensual, hot, and her recourse for the heartbreak and deceit he has bestowed upon her. And just as with anyone who has loved, lost, and tried to move on from a narcissist, she goes to watch him perform one last time. While she watches with awe and love, her eyes are different now. |

He has said that this song reveals the dark, shitty sides of himself. The things he does to people in relationships that he wishes he could change but he doesn't. These are his faults. It makes him very vulnerable but at least he's aware he can be an asshole at times. Slightly narcissistic behavior. I almost wish I didn't know this about him, though he is human after all. This has been one of my favorite Foo songs for a very long time. The driving beat that yes, keeps coming back. Ironically, a dear friend of mine fell in love with it as soon as they heard it. Ironic because they are the epitome of classic narcissism. Dave does not disappoint. |
