The Avett Brothers – The Ballad of Love and Hate Lyrics 10 years ago
I think that "The Ballad of Love and Hate," "Pretty Girl At the Airport," "I Would Be Sad," and "If It's The Beaches" all share a connection. (Perhaps maybe there are more songs) I just noticed it the other day when I was on a little Avett run.

Pretty Girl At The Airport (From Migonette) tells the story of a girl that leaves on a plane ride "from here to California." The teller of the story establishes a false presence of strength that "Hate" shares in this song. "You don't have to tell me that you love me, for all the words I never understood." "Leave Now while you can, I'm not your man"

If It's The Beaches carries on this trend. In a more lamenting, begging tone he says he can "push my feelings all aside" and "rearrange my plans and change for you." "If it's the Beaches sand you want than you can have it." Brings the trend of the ocean, perhaps established Pretty Girl At The Airport in California.

I Would Be Sad repeats a line from If It's The Beaches when he says that he "meant what I said when I said I would rearrange my plans and change for you."

Finally, Ballad of Love and Hate tells the story of her/love's return. "The weather was fine, and the ocean was great," repeats the beach motif in California and the beach. It tells a happy ending; Love comes back, and hate, though he is stubborn, welcomes her back.

I know they may not all connect, these songs aren't all sung by specifically Scott or Seth. But, I found it a cute, interesting story.
