Gorillaz – Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head Lyrics 10 years ago
that's my favorite interpretation, hell of a lot cooler than "the invasion of america" which is what i thought it was. it's so cool because you're taking something that gives off a majestic and god inspired feel, and then really it's about a very technical and scientific process. that's sick.

Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here Lyrics 10 years ago
overall message, Syd aside: you may take the easy way or the hard way, you may think you know good things from bad, but either way, you'll end up facing the same old fears.

everything is inevitable, regardless of the path taken to get there.

so on terms of syd barret: he may have left in the situation that happened, but it would have happened anyways

Johnny Cash – Hurt (Nine Inch Nails cover) Lyrics 10 years ago
the song was written by trent reznor. from NIN. it has been performed by NIN. and then redone with acoustics and grand piano with Johnny Cash. in all songs that have been redone, a new theme has been added in the newer version. both songs represent the same idea of a suicide note, and the same message, with NIN it's a very intense and passionate tone saying that he's going to make his problems go away, with Cash it has a more direct and peaceful tone. his aged voice makes it seem like his problems are old and he's more relieved that he doesnt have to deal with his problems anymore, it feels like more of the final words on a natural deathbed instead of suicide.

just because a song is redone doesnt mean one version has to be better. picking favorite is bad in any scenario, having to choose between two good things makes one good thing look great and another obsolete. like picking your favorite Doctor.

The Who – Behind Blue Eyes Lyrics 10 years ago
he talks about being this evil man with regrets, and how bad of a person he knows he is. but then you have the title of the song: behind blue eyes.

the prettiest eyes i've ever seen are blue, whenever i read about a good, kind person in a book they (usually) have green or blue eyes.

so he's saying "i may look like i am a good person, and even though i sometimes do good things, there are people who know how bad of a person i really am, i myself know how bad of a person i've been, how bad of a person i am. my conscience is empty, i never think of the good solution. so you may think i'm the good guy that keeps to himself in hopes of seeming humble, but really i stay away from people because i know i'll hurt them."

beautiful song. love it to pieces

Gorillaz – Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head Lyrics 10 years ago
i know the band has said otherwise, but i still think my interpretation fits pretty well.
the way i saw it:
happyfolk=native americans
strangefolk=american settlers, taking advantage of native american hospitality
The Mountain/Monkey=basically Earth. the land that has always provided for the inhabitants of the world. the land that native americans appreciated and allowed to provide themselves with the things they needed. and the land that american settlers harvested to provide for the growing population, which eventually ruins all land until things get so out of control that the now US government declares war on countries with the resources that the US has used up, and ends up using the atomic bombs and nuclear warfare that we've always thought would take place during WWIII; which kind of plays into the literal sense of the song that Gorrillaz gave.
