Milo Greene – 1957 Lyrics 10 years ago
Of course this comment is subjective. You are not the artist. "1957" was not chosen for the year 'psychedelia' was defined, but because it was the address of the space the band was working in when they did this song. The lyrics are sufficiently vague that this could be interpreted many different ways, your own cognitive bias is showing.

Here's my take: it makes much more sense that this is about a "May-December" relationship. The video aligns quite well with that view. The first verse describes a place out of time...covered in ivy, old windows. The girl connects the object of her affections with this time period. It "takes her away" into recollections that she can't possibly have -- she is too young -- but somehow she catches glimpses through him.

The second verse indicates that the two have had some sort of relationship: she's very familiar with the scent he wears. While she is infatuated, he's not sure if the relationship is a good idea. Outwardly, he acts as though they don't know each other. But since this "tempts her anxious mind" we can assume that this isn't truly the case. So at this point, she's left to wonder: should she have ever gotten to know him so closely? Would it be much better if she had never known him?

Notice that while the lead voice is female, a male sings along with most of it, even taking the lead on a few lines...this might indicate that they are both, privately, pining for each other, left with the same questions, encountering the same obstacles.

Then there's the final declaration "I'll go I'll go I'll go," sung loudly by both: they'll go, they'll forget the other if it's going to cause too much pain.
