The Delgados – Favours Lyrics 9 years ago
This song is reeeeeeally sombre. It details someone's girlfriend finding out that her boyfriend was either cheating or flirting with someone else, so she decks the girl, but gets freaked and runs off.
"Started to fight, but I took off in fright
Could not believe that she didn't chase me"
The guy meets her back at their place, presumably, and they "make up".
"Then you came to the fore
Not unsurprised, still happy to see you"
But something is clearly dead. They try to have sex, but she can't do it, so she drinks the rest of the night off.
"Touch without touch, are we feeling too much?
I can't decide if I'm feeing able"
"And I, I'll try to feel fine
While I'm taking orders from bottles of wine"
The fact that this song resonates with me this much says a bit too much about my last relationship, lol.

Radiohead – Videotape Lyrics 10 years ago
Bit too narrow-minded, guy. This is poetry, and Radiohead are a bit more cryptic than that, most of the time. You have to get into the mind-frame. It's a song about suicide. It's a common belief that people leave notes behind, or at least wish to, before they kill themselves. Honestly, I never attempted to write a note, and no one I knew who successfully killed themselves had either. Nevertheless, the message is clear. It's why there are the admissions of cowardliness in the lines, "This is my way of saying goodbye, Because I can't do it face to face, I'm talking to you after it's too late."
The Mephistopheles reference is simple. A lot of religious people believe that suicide lands you in Hell, and not only that, but the line is symbolic of the personal Hell the subject is going through.
He adds to the power of this theme by calling this act the "most beautiful day I've ever seen". It's a point of the idea of relief that death brings, after the seemingly endless suffering in the person's life.

Jana Hunter – Have You Got My Money Lyrics 10 years ago
This is one of her more straight-forward songs, I think. It seems to be telling the story of someone who was left single with a baby, struggling to stay afloat, basically.

Jana Hunter – Farm, Ca. Lyrics 10 years ago
I could be off, but then it's art, so I'm free to interpret it as I wish, but it seems to me that the song, both lyrically and melodically, are about, or at least come with the emotional frame of wallowing in self-loathing.
With the repeated boosting of second-rate things to the top of the list so to speak, it seems like the narrator is dealing with feeling not up to par in some way, as in "Gold isn't hip; silver is in". it seems like the same kind of self-deprecating masochism that I frequently feel on my blue days.

But again, that's just my opinion.
