Nirvana – Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam Lyrics 9 years ago
First off..

The song was not written by cobain so it is not about him

The song is about victimizing oneself to look special. It is deep in the sense that you hear about "do gooder" people that take on more than they can handle as a means to avoid real life and so that they can look torn and beaten. This allows them to victimize or martyr themselves and thus look like heros. They then get burned out and start either asking for more recognition, or they start hurting people because they feel like victims. An example would be a catholic priest, teachers, police officers, Doctors, millitary, therapists etc.

These are the people constantly complaining about how hard their job is when they knew full well what they were getting into.

When he says" jesus dont want me for a sunbeam because sunbeams are not made like me." It becomes an antithesis to the original christian song because it is about accepting yourself as you are and not trying to live life with a hero complex.

When he says "dont expect me to cry for all the reasons you had to die, dont ever ask your love of me..." It means quite clearly that he isnt gonna feel sorry for the martyrs and people who think they are special sunbeams because they set themselves up to die for their cause.

By not sharing sympathy, he takes away the reward of their sacrifice and ultimately takes away one of their main motivations.

Electric President – Ten Thousand Lines Lyrics 10 years ago
Its about dreaming big and then waking up one day to find you out grew your dreams. The guitar is like an alarm bell. Its capturing that moment when you wake up and realized you accomplished nothing.

The thousands of eyes is feeling the world ready to show you that you failed, and believe me, it always will.

The last part where he says they've got your loved ones your future etc. Its about blame, he cant accept that his dreams not happening were him and him alone. No one ever really stopped him and thats where that creeping nature of insanity comes from. An unwillingness to accept who he is.

My interpretation anyways

A Perfect Circle – 3 Libras Lyrics 10 years ago
I can't say what the song is about, only what it so deftly describes.

When I see this song, the first thing that comes to mind is bipolar disorder. If I ever wanted to explain what it's like I'd just show them this song. I understand this only because I am bipolar.

To me it's about a label and diagnosis, at first. You throw the doc what will obviously lead to your diagnosis. You feel like it's all smokin mirrors. The other part is realizing that everything that was real to you isn't real. Your entire identity is put into question. Who am I beyond this label?

Bipolar people can see through peoples bullshit and see them for who they are, but no one can see them. It's the heart of this song.

You realize you will never see yourself and the world won't ever see you either. The "among a million sane" to me is being classified as a statistic. I believe even the name 3 libras, which means 3 stories, is more like 3 states of being in bipolar. Mania, normal, depressed.

It's as if he is seeing all these sides and realizing all these things are him, not just the best but the worst as well. The other sides of this, is that in bipolar it's so much more complex than anyone understands. In relationships, all relationships, we try to either show our best or pretend to be what we are not only to hide our changing states. This drains us so much, because even if we could identify who we were, we'd still have to "fake it to make it."

Sometimes the hardest thing for us though, is when we show people who we are, we are rejected. We make relationships with wounded people and just hope they can understand our demons since we can see and understand theres. Tragically this is rarely the case. We are not seen by the wounded, by anyone.

He wants people to be deeper than they are and so few people lack depth.

It creates detatchment, and in the end the easiest way to describe a bipolar person is the mind of a child. It's why in the video he sees the boy and sees a part of himself in the boy and the boy sees himself in him.

Ultimately it all leads to disappointment, a bipolar person wants so desperately to learn who he or she is but we fall short of being able to accurately display who we are. It leads to isolation, giving up, when he says oh well , apparently nothing at all. Out of frustration and anger it's like he's trying to explain that they don't see him and it's why he is isolated. Even with company, as the video shows, he feels isolated.

Whether you believe my definition or not makes no difference to me because he truly is describing bipolar whether it was intentional or not.

Manchester Orchestra – Don't Let Them See You Cry Lyrics 10 years ago
It's about a funeral. The band is the music they play at funerals. You tap leather to get through it. You are afraid to cry to show any weakness. In short its feeling pain but being unable to express it.

Tool – Aenema Lyrics 10 years ago
It's an angry rant that got pissed out bottled and brewed. It's a logoed shirt, something to wear with a mohawk and chain tattoo. Something to hum in church and play on your guitar over and over to feel creative. It's hate candy for the self infatuated non comformist conformist that loves to hide from the world and feel like a rebel. It's a prayer for the insane paranoid delusionist, a mantra for the angsty teen and pure bullshit for the literate

Tool – Eulogy Lyrics 10 years ago
The song is about himself from a perspective of after he dies. In essence it's his own eulogy and what he imagined or was afraid of might happen.

In the 90s you had the emergence of scientology going main stream. You had people worshipping this guy who was just a writer/entertainer. Maynard saw the cult of rock and roll and peoples tendency to look to creative individuals on how to speak and think.

"He had a voice so loud" is an indicator of maynard not understanding why people might worship him. No logic necessary, he just had a swaying voice. You see this in the shallowness of general media. Vote for me because "I look presedential." They use looks as justification for logic or lack there of.

Come down off your cross, we need the fucking space to nail the next martyr...means that just as easily as he is worshipped loved and respected, it will end over night one day when either dead or alive he no longer fills that spiritual role people tried to pigeon hole him into.

He is replaceable. When jay leno retired recently, they said inspite of his tears, years of service, by next morning he will be forgotten.

The truth of eulogy is that our deaths make us larger than our lives. No one is truely worshipped until they die. I know this from experience, when my sister died people called her devine. My mom swore she spoke to my dead sister and she was an angel. Her memory became larger than she was and yet now years after her funeral no one speaks of her anymore. She is forgotten.

Thats what eulogy means to me. To remember that no matter what great thing you do, you will be forgotten.
