Fuel – Shimmer Lyrics 9 years ago
Wait! I just realized something! If you look at the sunburn album cover, It shows fire on the ground and a man looking towards the sun as if confused and frightened. This supports trieyeopen's comment. He looks confused as the sun causes havoc on the world, as he thought that they were coinciding in friendship.

I agree, however, this song is from the 70's, so the electronica you speak of wasn't as developed as now...

Rush – Armor and Sword Lyrics 10 years ago
"No one gets to their heaven without a fight." A great lyric and very true. Self-explanatory so I won't delve on that.

"What should have been our armor becomes a sharp and angry sword." This line should definitely bring controversy. It's very deep and is somewhat hard to determine. Perhaps it is taking about how when tortured for information, people spill vital information that was meant to protect their people, but the enemy uses it in horrible ways to become a weapon. This actually happens a lot.

"The battle flags are flown at the feet of the Gods unknown." This line (I think) talks about how humans become corrupt and push it on others. Think about it. Since Christianity was created, how many were murdered in the name of the Lord? "A God unknown".

"Meditation, or medication. A comfort, or a promised reward." This part, I think talks about how people promise their captives that if they give them the information they want, they'll be set free or given comfort. Meditation refers a calm state of mind that they will reach when the torture stops.

When he repeats in different forms, "Sometimes the damage is too great, or the will is too weak," Geddy means that sometimes captives give privileged information because they don't have enough love for their country or have suffered far more than any can possibly bare. Regardless, I think he means to say betrayal is betrayal and you should love your homeland enough to never do it regardless of the pain.

Pearl Jam – Crazy Mary Lyrics 10 years ago
This song is about a small-town person who went drinking with friends and later dreamed a car crashed into the house of Mary. Then, later he finds he was dreaming of small glimpses of his drunken car accident, where he killed Mary.

I think the deepest and strongest line in this song is "That what you fear the most, could meet you half-way". This is extremely true and now, he has to live with the fact that he killed "wild-eyed crazy Mary". A great moment in song history and the best lyric in the song...

Pearl Jam – Sirens Lyrics 10 years ago
This song's meaning seems simple enough to me. War setting in some village where they are calling this person (the singer) to fight. However, he has a girlfriend which he loves and doesn't want to leave for fear that he won't see her again. There were lots of sirens in WWII that would call the men to war. I think these "sirens" are the same thing.

When I picture this song happening, I often see in my head the scene in The Crucible where Proctor says goodbye to his wife just as the distant drums (sirens) are calling him to the gallows. The singer feels the same sort of anguish and fear when his sirens call him.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Disarm Lyrics 10 years ago
I understand why Billy wrote it and I am sorry for him (I'm going off that quote). But I only want to talk about my interpretation of one line.

"The killer in me is the killer in you"

This seems simple to me. It's describing how the only reason Billy wanted to kill his parents was because they slowly killed him in his childhood.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Bullet with Butterfly Wings Lyrics 10 years ago
I personally believe that this song is deeper that the music industry and religion. Sure, he says I still believe that I cannot be saved. But I don't take that to mean religion so much as humanities faults (religion being one of them). I really hope I don't offend anyone when I say religion is a fault (I don't mean to), but you have to agree. How many innocent people have been murdered in the name of "The Lord"? Religion isn't the only thing humanity needs saving from though.

We argue everyday over petty differences but don't care at all about what's happening to our lives around us. That is pretty much the meaning of corruption if you were to ask me. But instead of just sitting here arguing the meaning of this AMAZING SONG, just go out and push yourself to make the world a better place. That's how many define redemption and that is the meaning of this song.
