Porcupine Tree – Collapse The Light Into Earth Lyrics | 10 years ago |
For me, it's one of the best "goodbye" songs ever written. "I won't forget you when we part" and "I wouldn't stop you if you wanted to stay" indicate that he doesn't want it to happen, but respects the other's will and is letting him/her know that he still cares, but can live with this breakup. I wish my relationships could end like this. |

The line "I wish you were still alive" makes it all sound very, very deep. "clear the house you lived so many years" indicated that it was an older person who died, living alone. Maybe some relative, like grandmother? Or mother? He doesn't want to forget her. |

Feels like the author of "tear stained words" is either wanting to end the relationship or end his life altogether. The recipient of the letter wants to tell him to that there is still hope, that being alone in the north would help (maybe it helped him, when he was in similar situation?). Wonder if he can reach the other one in time. |
