Marina and the Diamonds – Teen Idle Lyrics 9 years ago
I think the song switches between two people and two perspectives. One is the girl who wishes she could be a teen idol, the other is the teen idol, who wishes to be something other than herself.

First perspective:
I wanna be a virgin pure
A 21st century whore

Second perspective:
I want back my virginity
So I can feel infinity

I see it also in the line
"I wish I wasn't such a narcissist
I wish that I didn't really kiss
The mirror when I'm on my own
Oh god I'm gonna die alone"

The "teen idol" realizes she is infatuated with look and herself.

Nico & Vinz – Am I Wrong Lyrics 9 years ago
I have a strong feeling this is about a gay relationship. "Am I wrong", "that's just how I feel", "Am I wrong to think we could be something for real" are all lyrics that give me this feeling. Also, look at the cover, then the video is them finding each other. I love the song, and with this story in mind, I think it all fits beautifully.

Lady GaGa – G.U.Y. Lyrics 10 years ago
Not only do I think this song is about the obvious, her being just as strong as the man in the relationship and all, I also think this is some great commentary and gender and patriarchal culture. If you watch her video, you can see famous figures such as Michael Jackson, Ghandi, Jesus. She wants to be just as famous and important as these influential men were. In another scene in the video you can see them taking blood from these people and injecting them into Gaga. This is great social commentary in my opinion. Her songs and videos definitely have more layers and meaning than most think.

Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit Lyrics 10 years ago
I disagree that this song means nothing. There's a lot of reference to social issues of the time the song was written.
The 90's was during the worst of the AIDS epidemic the lines:
"I fell stupid and contagious"
are a reference to AIDS.
Also the words "A mosquito, my libido" make sense in this context too.
A mosquito is an insect that can spread disease. In the context of AIDS, peoples libidos are what spreads it. Many other things can be pointed out, but that's just my biggest argument.

Creedence Clearwater Revival – Have You Ever Seen the Rain? Lyrics 10 years ago
I think it's about the Vietnam war.

"The sun is cold, the rain is hot"

Sounds very much like it's referring to napalm, used in Vietnam.
Also, the rain was "coming down on a sunny day"

This band was very vocal about Vietnam, so I think it makes sense.

The Neighbourhood – Sweater Weather Lyrics 10 years ago
To me, this song is about two people who are in a relationship, but live very far from each other. They each try to go to where the other lives:
"I hate the beach
But I stand in California with my toes in the sand"

"'Cause it's too cold whoa
For you here
And now, so let me hold whoa
Both your hands in the holes of my sweater"

In the first quote, he's in California, where she is, even though he hates it there.
In the next stanza, he's talking about how it's too cold for her here, where he lives. Perhaps he's on the east coast, Boston comes to mind for some reason, where "Sweater Weather" lasts from October to April, most of the time.

There's even the line:
"So move to a place so far away"

So perhaps they've tried to live with the other, but it just doesn't work out because one is used to the sand of the beach, and the other is used to sweater weather.

Lorde – Ribs Lyrics 10 years ago
Aside from the lovers part of this song, it reminds me a lot of my best friend and I. Recently we've grown apart, on account of many things, but one of them is that they have feelings for me that I do not reciprocate.

"I want 'em back (I want 'em back)
The minds we had (the minds we had)
It's not enough to feel the lack
I want 'em back, I want 'em back, I want 'em"

This passage makes me think of how you want your old friend back, the old times and how you used to interact with each other.

"You're the only friend I need
Sharing beds like little kids
Laughing 'til our ribs get tough
But that will never be enough"

Often I felt as if my friend was the only one I had, and the only one I needed, as I'd shared a lot, more than I have with anyone else, with this person.
During summer when we'd have sleepovers we'd share a bed, like little kids.
We would laugh at stupid things, our hearts filled.
And yet, that will never be enough, for them. And therefore, friendship ends, and it hurts, and all you want is those days back.

She wants it back, the times they had, the thoughts they both thought. They're both getting older, and drifting apart.

Lorde – Bravado Lyrics 10 years ago
I strongly believe that this song is about shyness/anxiety and how she copes with it, being on stage and all.

I personally know how this feels, especially a few years ago when my shyness and isolation was at it's worst.
"All my life
I've been fighting a war.."
It literally feels like you're fighting a war every time you have to step outside and put on that mask of confidence.
"...I can't talk
to you or your friends.
It's not only you.."
It's not just this person she possibly likes that she can't talk to, it's every one around her.
"My heart jumps around when I'm alluded to.."
I remember, when I was painfully shy if I even heard my name from someone my anxiety would kick in.
"This will not do."
After a while, it becomes impossible to live this way. You can't avoid everyone forever and it just simply will not do, to not talk to anyone, or to be incredibly anxious while doing so.
"Cause I was raised up
to be admired
to be noticed..."
Everyone, regardless of if you're a singer, or famous, etc, has been told since a young age that must be well liked, and that shyness is looked down upon. You can't be shy, you must be admired, and you must be noticed. Only, when you're shy, being noticed is the last thing you want.
"But when you're WITHDRAWN
it's the closest thing
to ASSAULT when all eyes are on you
this will not do"
Having anxiety will make you feel like you're going to die when you have to get up in front of people, when everyone's looking at you. You're so afraid of their judgement and harsh words it's hard to do anything but want to cry.
