El-P – Tuned Mass Damper Lyrics 3 years ago
@[aldude999:36500] Also the tuned mass damper in this case is using drugs to escape from the sobering reality of the world.

El-P – Tuned Mass Damper Lyrics 3 years ago
A tuned mass damper is often found in skyscrapers to absorb vibrations in the building that if otherwise were not absorbed, would cause heavy vibrations and could cause damage to the structure. I think the song, and especially the last two lines are saying we are the ones absorbing the problems with the world and allowing them to continue. We're the tuned mass damper, and we could easily "tourch our own entrapments" and allow the corrupt structures to crumble.

Nine Inch Nails – Burn Lyrics 3 years ago
I'm 99% sure the song is about child abuse and the main character taking his abuse out on the world.

"Something inside of me
Has opened up its eyes
Why did you put it there?
Did you not realize"

"I never was a part of you"

And most importantly:

I am your savior (Burn)
I am corruption (Burn)
I am the angel (Burn)
Of your destruction (Burn)
I am subversion (Burn)
Secret desire (Burn)
>>I am your future (Burn)
Swallowed up in fire<<

How To Destroy Angels – Welcome Oblivion Lyrics 5 years ago
JooPe is right. This whole album is about the demise of our planet/species through AI, algorithms, technology, and interconnectivity, and how we allow it to happen. In some cases, "embracing" it.

Jesus Jones – The Real World Lyrics 5 years ago
Sounds like a song about a crush and how perfect a relationship seems in your head. You idolize the other person even when people are warning you about them.

LCD Soundsystem – Call the Police Lyrics 5 years ago
Seems to be about the current state of politics and how both sides have contributed to it. The old guys fight because they don't understand the world and are frightened, and the kids fight because they're just following the beliefs of their parents. We all end up arguing about who's a Nazi and who's oppressed, but nobody wins. There's no love. No understanding of each other.

Gorillaz – Do Ya Thing Lyrics 5 years ago
Most of the lyrics on this song are freestyle, so they won't make complete sense, but I'm pretty sure this song is about each of their experiences as a popular musician.

Damon Albarn was notoriously egotistical when he started off as a musician, and many of the people that worked with him back then have commented on it.

James Murphy has talked about his social anxiety and how his fear of failure kept him from making music in his early days, so his lyrics have to do with uncertainty.

Andre 3000 talks about wishing to be "normal people" and he has done plenty of stunts wearing odd clothing and making odd music. Also his lyrics seem to be about some of the criticism he's faced.

NRBQ – Howard Johnson's Got His Ho-Jo Workin' Lyrics 6 years ago
Pretty obvious the song is about Howard Johnson's prevalence when travelling at the time. They had hotels, restaurants (over 1000 of them), and motor lodges all across the states. Ho-Jo was a fairly common term for them.

White Zombie – Super-Charger Heaven Lyrics 6 years ago
This song lyrics and the single album art both have "Devilman" in it. It's a manga that came out in the 70's about a human that gets possessed by a demon and goes out to kill demons to try and save the human race. It's extremely gory, violent, sexual, and dark and one of the first of it's kind. Interestingly enough, he even puts clips of the Devilman anime in the live performance. Some of the lyrics even seem to pertain to it.

Mark Ronson – Daffodils Lyrics 8 years ago
The lyrics here are terribly off. This is pretty close, if not spot on:
Run your fingers down the cool
Underbelly of the blue evening
Crank that vapor-wagon
Start the kicking dragon beating
Step out on the patio
Follow where your daddy-o's leading

Wrestle with our shadow twins
Hold'em till they're glowin' in warning
Hit that bubble, kid now
Laughin' as you breathe out, easy
Drop another daffodil
We can push on through till morning
Drop another daffodil sail off the map until morning

Baby just say no to sleep
Bodies got to keep exploring
Sweet volcano violence
Vast new continents spawning
Drop another daffodil
We can push on through till morning
Drop another daffodil sail right off the map until morning

Put another record on
Maybe Chaka Khan or Rocky
Catch on fire above the
Green empire of the kraken
Flow with the isosceles
To the beat of six knees knocking

Drop another daffodil we can push on through till morning
Drop another daffodil sail right off the map until morning

Timbaland – Give It To Me (feat. Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake) Lyrics 8 years ago
@[idntfcklosers:5391] He's referencing SexyBack. Prince said something like "Why is Justin saying he’s bringing sexy back, sexy never left"
It actually does make sense if you think about it, if sexy never left, then why did SexyBack top the charts, it clearly did good.

Tame Impala – Nangs Lyrics 8 years ago
Fun fact, in Australia nang is the slang term for N2O, the stuff they give you at the dentist as an anesthetic. People also use it recreationally because it makes you feel really weird and disassociated with reality for a minute or two. The term came around because of the sound it makes after it kicks in.

If you ever get a chance to pick up the album the lyrics and album title are all marker written on a drawn brick wall. "Writing on the wall"
I think it's kind of genius.

Just wanted to say, during the "you" part of the song, a faint voice can be heard on the surround sound version. I was able to take the track out and this is what it is:

Nine Inch Nails – You Know What You Are? Lyrics 10 years ago
I was watching The Lion King today, and this song popped in my head when Rafiki said "Remember who you are." I realized similarities can be found in the first verse relating to Simba trying to escape his past, and the second verse can be related to Scar making Simba believe he killed Mufasa. Of course, the movie touches on almost universal themes, as well as many NIN songs, but I thought I would point it out.
