Wow. We are all the same. We need to help each other out, or we will forever be seeking meaning where there is none. |

This song just draws you in for some reason. It's awesome on headphones...lots of left to right switching, like it's bouncing back and forth over your head. You can tell it's an angry song. The bass drum reminds me of someone pounding on a door, as if forcing you to show it attention. Then there's this dubstep like break. Then the song gets really intense at the end. Love it. |

And rolling one up back then was like cracking a beer open now. Just relaxation, nothing too deep. |

This is one of my favorites. I naturally gravitate towards David's songs. He does almost everything on this song. When I hear this, I think of Summer nights, birds, being with a person you love, holding hands. He alludes to being quiet...as not to ruin the moment, unless the sound is a melody to match the atmosphere. |

This song is strangely alluring. My take is that relations with groupies are worthless...there's no feeling, they are just going through the motions. I think Rick is actually trying to humanize the groupie. He knows they must feel something. Then he decides that there are many more just like this one. He feels sad wasting his time on empty "relationships." |

People that don't like PF just don't get it. I appreciate the deeper meanings and references. I don't have to have it all laid out for me. I love the journey to the interpretation. |

Pink Floyd – Breathe Lyrics

We have been given a gift which is life. The first verse is a mother's advice. Enjoy life. Grow up, but don't forget me. Don't go along with others just because they say to. Think for yourself. Stand up for what you believe in. You have so much potential. Embrace every experience wholeheartedly.
The next verse is the soul shattering real world. Work, work, work, literally killing yourself preparing for something that doesn't even matter. Life gets away from you if you don't take time to enjoy it and experience different things. You allow material things to get in the way of what really counts. |

Pink Floyd – Coming Back to Life Lyrics

I absolutely love this song. It applies to me in so many ways.
To me, it's about realization and change.
The "Where were you" parts of the song pertain to someone being right there but being emotionally absent during a hard time, or just in general. The part about everything you do and say surround me is about you really caring and really admiring the other individual...but a change has taken place and they are not the person you once looked up to. This other person is consumed with outside influences and not paying attention to what is going on with the relationship. They are focused on negativity and they are really dying on the inside, and possibly physically dying (ie killing their self with drugs, alcohol, etc.) They have lost their purpose. As for you, you are drawn to light when you realize that you no longer wish to follow the path they are on. So, you start dwelling on your purpose alone, without their influence. You start listening to yourself. You are now open to change and realize that you will be okay without that other person, and that aspects of leaving them will set you free. When the song refers to a dangerous and irresistible past time, for me it is the breaking of an addiction that was used to deal with what you knew deep down was happening, but refused to admit it. Relationships don't suddenly end, it is a process. Sobriety has allowed you to start thinking clearly. I have always understood the lyric to read, "I took a heavenly ride through our silence." This is the point where the growing distance in a relationship finally cuts off much of the meaningful communication, allowing you to think as an individual rather than a couple. Killing the past and coming back to life represents being done with another who has held down your inner self...living for you and not what others demand or expect of you. I knew the waiting had begun...that is self realization that you are aware of the wonderful changes that await you. Positivity replaces negativity and doubt. You can achieve happiness on your own instead of relying on someone or something to show you the way. Yes, a "Time" reference! |

Pink Floyd – Brain Damage Lyrics

The first verse talks about childhood and innocence...and how we are taught from an early age what is "normal" and "acceptable." It's a nostalgic view about before we were spoon-fed our beliefs; innocence, love, joy, creativity, etc.
The second verse is about being surrounded by the insanity of the relentless media. The paperboy bringing more everyday is saying how misinformation and propaganda dictate how we see the world. Lots of politicians trying to get you to believe or do something for their own personal gains. It's an entity, yet again, that is concerned with "keeping you in line."
The dam breaking open refers to your breaking point when you've had enough bullshit. No room upon the hill means that you don't fit in with those that feel they are elevated above you or their views that they are trying to impose upon you. Dark forebodings means you can see the path that masses are on leads to destruction...both of the physical world and themselves. The dark side of the moon is the "meeting place" for like-minded individuals who feel the same way.
The next verse is about being forced (or at the very least, pressured) to allow a set of beliefs and feelings you disagree with at your very core. You rearrange me 'til I'm "sane." Locking the door and throwing away the key...once their work is done, you are alone with the results. You are in prison battling another entity that has been placed in there with you against your will.
The final verse is self-realization and the inability to convince others to "step out of the line." It could also mean that it's hard to hear one individual over the droning of the masses.
The entire song as a whole is kind of a call out to people who have been able to rise up (those who "get it") out of oppression from a cookie cut world and are okay with who they are, even if it's perceived that they are "brain damaged." It is letting us know no matter how alone we feel that there, in a sense, are others who feel the same way.
At the end of the day, we have to live with our own selves. It's hard to be content when you know you are living a lie on the outside just to appear normal, while your real self is fighting to get out. |

On your added comment, I never thought of it that way. That could be a metaphor for feeling like you are drowning. |

My interpretation of this song is you are in control of your own destiny. Listening to others can be dangerous because it deprives you of your own true potential and beliefs. Being fearless means being able to realize that and stand up for what you believe in no matter what people say to you or do to you and accept good and bad consequences on your own terms. If you had listened to the person who said the hill couldn't be climbed, you would have missed out on the journey and accomplishment. |
