| Okay, I know this song's annoying but TO BE FAIR TO THESE GUYS, they're a comedy group. This wasn't an attempt to make a hit song, they were just trying to make something for laughs (not unlike The Lonely Island or Weird Al), but it went extremely viral, even they were surprised at it. | |

Yeah the lyrics are odd...but the awesome thing about music is that you can interpret any song into what you want it to mean, so just put your own interpretation to the words and you'll still be right! PS, I like this song. Don't care what Blender or Rolling Stone say. |

Bastille said it's about a conversation between two of the "stone people" of Pompeii (look it up if you don't know what I mean) but at the same time I think the lyrics were left somewhat ambiguous so people could interpret them in their own way. I for example see this as a symbol of change: the things around us are going to change and will never be the same, but at the same time, if you close your eyes for a moment and imagine it almost feels like "nothing's changed at all". Anything from a childhood neighborhood, to friends, to an entire city. Pompeii changed, people change, life changes. But one can always close their eyes and imagine life as it was, and it's as close as you'll get to going back. That's how I see it :) |
