Cheating. No reasons needed, isn't it obvious?

Evanescence – Whisper Lyrics 10 years ago
Verse 1:
Catch me as I fall
Say you're here and it's all over now
Speaking to the atmosphere
No one's here and I fall into myself

This is an effective start to a song, I think it's referring to somebody, maybe an imaginary or even dead figure, who Lee or the character relied heavily on. She says "Catch me as I fall," as in she is relying on them to help her, but them remembers they're not actually there. ("Speaking to the atmostphere, no one's here and I fall into myself.)

Verse 2:
This truth drives me
Into madness
I know I can stop the pain
If I will it all away

This is a realization verse, Lee is coming to sense with the fact nobody is there and they can't actually help her. ("This truth drives me into madness") Then she feels some kind of courage or hope, that maybe she can stop being codependent and do it herself. ("I know I can stop the pain if I will it all away, if I will it all away.")

Chorus:
Don't turn away
(Don't give in to the pain)
Don't try to hide
(Though they're screaming your name)
Don't close your eyes
(God knows what lies behind them)
Don't turn out the light
(Never sleep never die)

This is beautiful writing, lyrically. The way it's sung is so that the words in brackets are actually soft voices, possibly those in her head, spurring her on to achieve this goal that is plagued with madness, insomnia and trauma. Its almost a reference to the concious battle between the angel and devil on somebody's shoulder, the angel is the one in the brackets. "Dont try to hide (Though they're screaming your name)" Could refer to Amy's inner demons or devil that wants her to give in.

Verse 3 and 4:
I'm frightened by what I see
But somehow I know
That there's much more to come
Immobilized by my fear

And soon to be
Blinded by tears
I can stop the pain
If I will it all away

Verse 3 is most likely what Lee experiences as she finally 'opens her eyes' to the world inside her head that has feared her so much, but she knows there will be more, even worse nightmares plaguing her. (I'm frightened by what I see but somehow I know there's much more to come. Immobilized by fear,")
Verse 4 leads on from 3, as Lee is expectant of the trauma she is about to experience, ("And soon to be blinded by tears.") they could be from hysteria, trauma or pure sadness at the further realization she is alone. Then the courage resumes with her stating she knows she can work through the pain, followed by the chorus.

Verses 5&6:
Fallen angels at my feet
Whispered voices at my ear
Death before my eyes
Lying next to me I fear

She beckons me
Shall I give in
Upon my end shall I begin
Forsaking all I've fallen for
I rise to meet my end

This is heartwrenching. The fallen angels at my feet probably relates back to the angels trying to help Lee, but they have know been overpowered by the demons. They are whispering and persuading her to give in and die, possibly suicide or to just let her madness take over her until she can feel nothing anymore. (Whispered voices in my ear, death before my eyes, lying next to me I fear.") The 6th verse is her considering to actually go along with the demons, and to die. "She beckons me" could be this person Lee has been relying on, trying to bring her to the dead, causing her to deeply consider it. She then notices she will be abandoning everything she has fallen for (this person she misses) if she doesn't go into death. She then decides to stand and let death over take her ("I rise to meet my end.")

The chorus then repeats three times, almost reminding Lee what she felt before she fell down and succumbed to her demons. Half way through this the latin cuts in, "Servatis a periculum" (save us from danger) and "Servatis a maleficum"(save us from evil). This could either be the angels that have fallen to defeat among the demons or just those others who are also, like the character in this song, in madness and caught in the crossfire of a fight between good and evil.

A beautiful song, one of my favourites by Evanescence, I love them too much!

Evanescence – Tourniquet Lyrics 10 years ago
Well a tourniquet is a bandage sort of device used in life-threatening situations to slow bleeding from large wounds. The title and aura of the song suggests maybe it's the heart or will to live that's 'bleeding', and she needs her 'tourniquet' or 'God', most likely a lover or friend to stop that bleeding.
It also suggests she's been betrayed and lost trust. Seen where Lee writes "and I'm pouring, crimson regret, and betrayal." Suggests that maybe it really has wounded her mentally and that it was someone she probably trusted dearly and relied on.

Chorus-
I'm dying,
Praying,
Bleeding,
And screaming
Am I too lost to be saved?
Am I too lost?
My God! My tourniquet
Return to me salvation
My God! My tourniquet
Return to me salvation

You can see the desperation not only through Amy's voice, but through the lyrics in the second verse. Like when she says "Praying, bleeding, and screaming. Am I too lost to be saved, am I too lost?". Suggests that she is non-religious and has gone and turned to religion, most likely Christianity, to beg for help. Maybe she feels as if she has reached insanity, and has let herself 'fall', hence her asking "Am I too lost to be saved?"
When she mentions the tourniquet, she could either be referencing to God himself or to a God-like figure to her, who she considers a life saving device. She also seems to be begging for forgiveness from her sins, when she says "return to me salvation".

Verse 2:
Do you remember me?
Lost for so long
Will you be on the other side?
Will you forget me?

This is interesting. Amy could either be referring to ignoring or being uncommited to her religion. Shown when she says "Do you remember me, lost for so long,". Also her worry about ignoring the faith shows when she says "Will you be on the other side? Will you forget me?", referring to the angels and God in heaven, who she fears have forgotten her because of her ignorance.
She could also be talking about somebody who is dead, and she has refused to think about. The two link, "Do you remember me, lost for so long" also refers to being non commited and ignoring that person, as does "Will you be on the other side? Will you forget me?" refer to the worry that once she too dies- which she expects is soon, this person wont be there because they, too have forgotten her.

Backing line:
"Return to me salvation.
I want to die!"

This is very chilling, the words themselves and the haunting way Lee delivers them with the muted scream. The salvation still remains having the same meaning. But when Lee screams "I want to die!" puts heavy evidence on both views; she could either want to die because she is so lost and believes religion cannot save her now, or she is desperate to see this dead person again. My personal view is the first, although the religious references could easily be simply a double entendre. They're used all the time in music.

The last verse:
My wounds cry for the grave
My soul cries, for deliverance
Will I be denied?
Christ! Tourniquet! My suicide

I believe this is Lee contradicting herself in her own mind. Her supposedly physical, but most likely mental, wounds are asking for her to die. This probably refers to depression, which I think is an undertoned but sturdy theme throughout the songs. At the same time her soul is wanting deliverance, to be let out of the 'cage' it is currently trapped in, therefore returning the character back to their original self. This is probably representing the switching of mindets between suicidal thoughts and courage to live.
It's seen in the last two lines she's seemingly decided to suicide, but is having last doubts. She's pondering over whether her request to enter heaven will be refused, ("Will I be denied?") due to suicide. She also calls out "Christ!" as if she is summoning him to her. She once again mentions the tourniquet, then "My suicide." This is a very effective last line, that wraps up the song perfectly. I believe it means all along, her tourniquet has been knowing she will die.

This is a beautiful song by my favourite band, I'm very analytical with these things I know, sorry! :D
