Radiohead – Permanent Daylight Lyrics 5 years ago
@[DMoneys36:28939] These lyrics sound right to me when I listen closely. Have you sent in a revision to the original poster of the lyrics? Would be nice to see them changed on this site.

The Strokes – Ize of the World Lyrics 7 years ago

Not too long at all. Your interpretation is entirely in line with mine. Thanks for taking the time to post it.
As a side note I've submitted corrections to the lyrics (ex: IDIPP where is should be DIDIPP) a couple times to no avail.
Do you happen to know if Casablancas made up the D.I.D.I.P.P acronym? I can't help but assume he got it from somewhere else but I can't really find any sources. Maybe something from university philosophy crowd? heheh

System of a Down – Science (feat. Arto Tunçboyacıyan) Lyrics 8 years ago
@[iceman30:6740] Nailed it bro! Definitely not anti-science, but a warning that science is not the only answer. Also that science can help us and/or destroy us, it's up to us.

Father John Misty – Holy Shit Lyrics 8 years ago
Absolutely incredible lyrics. Replying to the 2 comments before: I'm pretty sure he does say "incest dreams". Definitely odd but it flows with the line right after, "fuck the mother in the green" which I agree is a direct reference to destroying earth or mother nature (our mother, as creatures of the earth). Pretty sure he also says "planet cancer" not "plant cancer" but it doesn't affect the sense or meaning of the song really.

And it's definitely not "vegan life" lol it's gotta be "vacant life"

Fleet Foxes – He Doesn't Know Why Lyrics 9 years ago
The 2nd verse is tough to discern but changes so much about the lyrics.I put both below, the second one is what I think it is. Could be a blend of both. The rest are pretty accurate in my opinion. Really love this song though. Seems like it's from the younger brother's perspective about the older brother. Funny thing is I can see myself as the older or younger brother at the same time.

Penniless and tired, with your hair grown long
I was looking at you there and your face looked wrong
Memory is a fickle siren song
I didn't understand

Image and a light as the morning nears
you don't say a single word of the last two years
Well you will be, you'll reach the frontier
I didn't understand, oh

or (think it's the next one)

In the gentle light as the morning nears
You don't say a single word of the last two years
where you were or when you reached the frontier
I didn't understand, no

See your rugged hands and a silver knife
Twenty dollars in your hand that you hold so tight
All the evidence of your vacant life
My brother you were gone

And you will try to do what you did before
Pull the wool over your eyes
For a week or more
Let your family take you back to your original mind

There's nothing I can do
There's nothing I can do
There's nothing I can say
There's nothing I can say
I can say

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Easily Lyrics 10 years ago
I think you're closest to hitting the nail on the head with this one. Or at least it's the closest to my own interpretation I've found. Very well explained. I'm glad you touched on the Shao Lin, many of the explanations don't touch on this, but it comes up in most of the verses and I think (like you) that's it's integral to understanding the meaning of the song.

alt-J – Taro Lyrics 10 years ago
"What is the significance of the first 5 digits of Pi in this song? (3.1415) I can't seem to fit that in properly with the rest of the piece, and it's really bugging me. If anyone reading this has some ideas, I would be delighted to hear them!"

I can't say for sure but I hunch is that it's used loosely to illustrate a circle. That is to say that Capa's life has come full circle as he passes into the afterlife and reunites with Taro. Why just the first 5 digits and not 4 or 6, probably just for poetic effect or cadence, essentially just fit well with the rest of the music/rhythm/lyrics.

What a moving and beautiful song. Chorus is incredible.
