Talking Heads – Take Me To The River Lyrics 9 years ago
On one of the album covers Bryne states this song is about teenaged lust and baptism. Not equating them, just combining them. I'm guessing he wanted to stir up a bit of controversy with Christians, which is why he became part of the Church of the Subgenius. He likes to poke a bit of fun.

Talking Heads – Heaven Lyrics 9 years ago
The same thing over and over and over for billions of years is going to end up being monotonous. There's no escaping that and that's what this song is implying.

It's definitely indicating that eternal life would be a curse, not a blessing. Byrne is known to be a skeptic when it comes to religion and was/is even a member of the Church of the Subgenius, which is a parody of religions. Many of his songs take a dig at religion, even to the point of having Christians referred to Talking Heads as a sacreligious band.

I always wondered about the lyrics "Don't you queer me pitch" (that makes no sense)

It always sounded to me like "don't you pee on the pitch" to me. ie, someone urinating on the cricket pitch.

I think I saw lyrics somewhere else where it's "Don't leave me on the fence" but it doesn't sound like that either.

Cricket is a popular summer time game in Jamaica. This person is obviously trying to fit in with the culture there by loving cricket and reggae music.

Men at Work – It's A Mistake Lyrics 9 years ago
Seeing the video, I always thought it was about the Battle of Gallipol. The lyrics themselves seem to suggest survivors at the end of it - not the end of the world.

But I guess if Colin Hay says its about nuclear war, then it must be.

Meat Loaf – Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are Lyrics 9 years ago
it's about letting go of the past. Don't hold onto it. We can hold onto the pains of the past and let them affect us negatively. We can't let that happen. We have to move on.

There's another Meatloaf song with a similar kind of theme "A Kiss is a terrible thing to waste". Always look to the future and don't get hung up on past failures or pains.

Meat Loaf – A Kiss Is A Terrible Thing To Waste Lyrics 9 years ago
It's saying don't waste the chances you are given. Grab them while they are there otherwise you are going to regret never having taken them when you had the chance. Look to the future, not the past and don't get hung up on past failures.

10cc – I'm Not In Love Lyrics 10 years ago
He probably wouldn't have kept the picture of her if hadn't been in a relationship with her previously. He may say "don't think you've got it made" because he doesn't want her to believe they're actually a couple again. Likewise he may not actually want her to tell anybody because people may think he's an idiot for giving her a second chance. He may not want to make it public that they're back together. "ooh you'll wait a long time" may mean that it could take a long time before he will forgive her and even then there are no guarantees. She's gonna have to work at it.

This woman has hurt him in some way (I suspect she cheated on him) and he wants her back, but he doesn’t want to make it too obvious and he wants to protect himself from further heart break so is trying to gain a certain amount of control. Nevertheless, he’s being kind of wishy washy about it. He’s clearly still hurting and he wants her to know she’s gonna have to work long and hard to gain his trust back and even then there are no guarantees. Oh he’s in love alright, no doubts about that.

The Human League – Louise Lyrics 10 years ago
A beautiful song and one of my favourites of theirs. Yes, there is definitely denial in this. This is a man holding onto a fantasy that he doesn’t want to let go.

The talking bit near the end always had me perplexed. What sort of wounds would you never want healed? The answer was revealed to me a few years back when a new relationship I was in fell apart. I wanted to keep holding on to the hope that maybe we’d get back together. To actually let it go, allow the wounds to heal and move on, meant that I would have to give up that dream of us being together again and I didn’t want to do that.

I think for Phil in this song though, that smile he gets at the end suggests a happy ending on this occasion. Or at the very least closure.
