I've never heard anyone who really got it. Wow I must commend you and tell you how happy reading this made me! You could not have come closer by saying,
"Buckley always seems like he's on something of a different plane, but isolated moments bring him into sharp contact with the world around him. Love -- the kind of really connecting, belonging-to-another-soul love -- was, I think, kind of scary for Jeff, because it would have impacted the fragile beauty of the world in his head."
You hit the nail on the HEAD my friend. Indeed such is the case because he would be cheating, on his music so to speak. |

Thank you for correcting that! :) I was wondering if anyone would because it completely changes the song, although the other improvised lyrics he usually did live were very very much making statements that related to what he was going through at the time. This was my favorite the moment I heard it. It isn't as literal as some may think it is, that's okay though and serves their purpose. That's what it should do :) It goes WAY deeper than just what it appears to be saying though. |

Jeff did not write "Lilac Wine", it's a Nina Simone song. He covered artists songs that he admired. A lot of nina Simone's. I played at their induction and he was a true admirer of hers. |

It is actually a transmission through the reverberating sounds going on that sound swirling around your head while he induces you with the hypnotic vocalizations of his spirit. He is reaching out for the last time before he leaves to send a message out. It's his "Last Goodbye" literally. He is making sure that someone knows exactly what this life has meant and that he will be alright. He will go and they will stay behind and finish up what he started. The end. lol For real, it's very real, so real actually. |
