| Excellent analogy. These were very close to my own thoughts on the song many years ago. I often felt that there was a certain poetic license taken from a play called "The Rover or The Banish 'd Cavaliers,." One can stretch it even further and possibly suggest that some tenets may be extracted form the story of Hosea When the Lord began to speak by Hosea, the Lord said to Hosea: “Go, take yourself a wife of harlotry and children of harlotry, for the land has committed great harlotry by departing from the Lord.” Something about the male ego's "White Knight' syndrome where he feels that he can rescue a woman form a dire predicament and then finally accepting that his quixotic quandary is a fools errand.
