You're close, in fact the original OMD song was called Goddess of Love but when they changed the ending Andy McCluskey had to come up with a new song asap so If You Leave was born. Last OMD concert I went to he commented they never really felt the song was up to their usual standard as it was done quickly.
The thing that gets me is that PiP is basically a gender reversal of Some KInd of Wonderful but where as Eric Stolz was allowed to fall for his best friend and let the rich chick go, audiences wouldn't let Molly do the same she had to have the "Cinderella" moment. |

I am relieved to see so many people here who recognise the drowning lyric is just a metaphor for hating someone. It really winds me up to see people talking about "actual" imaginery incidents especially when they refer to these taking place at Summer Camp or when he was in boy scouts of America. I mean seriously the guy is from Hounslow, London ENGLAND, no summer camps in England and definately no boy scouts of america!!!!! |
