Black Sabbath – Electric Funeral Lyrics 11 years ago
to the person who claimed "Iced Earth's version is better",,,,,,,,
their version sounds like amateur slop. They ruin the dark and ominous feel of the song with their teenage musical abilities.
I checked them out on YouTube,,,, and they really fall short on this song.
Perhaps they should cover something simple like ac/dc.

There's more to Black Sabbath than meets the eye / ear.
Can you name any other band that has captured the Black Sabbath sound?

NO.

Led Zeppelin – Kashmir Lyrics 11 years ago
In response to "thapeanut on March 01, 2013"

Who says:
"Read the Ellimist Chronicles! He travels time and space, he's seen the elders of a gentle race,he's rarely seen,
I mean COME ON! It's like blatantly pointing at that to me!"
-----------------------

Interesting idea but there's a slight problem.
Physical Graffiti was released February 24, 1975.
And the Ellimist Chronicles appeared 20 years later!

Once again Led Zeppelin is ahead of their time.

I believe LZ intentionally wrote their songs as mysteriously ambiguous as the great painters painted their master pieces. Both are "timeless" and being discussed for decades and decades yet to come.
With that technique, each and every listener can interpret the music and it's meanings just as differently as we all are.
Zeppelin intended their music to live on forever. Otherwise they would have taken the "easier" FM pop route and slapped together a couple paragraphs of forgettable and simple lyrics, like hundreds of other bands all of us have forgotten about over the years.

It's 2013 now and even though LZ laid the blueprint decades ago, I can't think of a single group that comes close to Led Zeppelin musically or lyrically.

Led Zeppelin – Custard Pie Lyrics 11 years ago
at the end of the song Plant repeats the line "chewing your Custard Pie" several times,,,,, then he says or maybe demands her to ,,, "drop down",,,, "drop down".
If he was chewing on her pie,, then she "drops down",,,

now they must be in the "69" position.

yep,,,, definitely a song dedicated to oral sex.

Led Zeppelin – The Crunge Lyrics 11 years ago
I think Plant was way ahead of his time on this song. 1973 and he is pushing the envelope onto some kind of melodic rap.

I see people mention the lyric paying homage to James Brown's "take me to the bridge", but I wonder if you guys are getting the actual joke.
It's not simply a reference to JB. If you recall the song and the "groove" are locked into the same rhythm with no signs of letting up.
"Have you seen the bridge" refers to the next "musical bridge" for the song to follow and transition into the next song structure, which it never does.

And in frustration the songs comes to a halt, with the comment,,,
"Where's that confounded bridge" ?

Led Zeppelin – Whole Lotta Love Lyrics 11 years ago
In the early 1980's I saw a rare video for this song.
It started out with swirling bright psychedelic colors and the song of course.
Then there was a thin girl with very long blonde hair who appeared to be maybe 18 and dancing under the swirling colored lights.
After a bit she turned around and faced the camera, not only was she incredibly beautiful, she was totally naked and had incredibly large breasts.
I mean SPECTACULAR !
My jaw dropped as she was a goddess, and probably one of their favorite groupies.

The video was incredibly hypnotic and I have never seen it again.

DOES ANYBODY HAVE THIS VIDEO ?
$500 for this rare video.

Led Zeppelin – Custard Pie Lyrics 11 years ago
Since the Custard I have ever seen had a yellow / blonde tint to it,,,

I've always believed this song to be about "eating a blonde haired woman's blonde pussy" ,,,, "sweet and nice" !

They were very deliberate with their choice of "custard", when there are so many other possible words like: "cherry, strawberry," to describe this girl's ,,,, "PIE"

"throw your man out the door",,,,, That's awesome. Even if it was from 1935.

Led Zeppelin – Celebration Day Lyrics 11 years ago
"She hears them talk of new ways
To protect the home she lives in,",,, maybe new laws,,, protecting her Home of the Brave and Home of the Free"?

"Then she wonders what it's all about
When they break down the door.
Her name is brown or white or black,",,,,, Liberty and Freedom for the "brown, white and black" people ?

"You know her very well, ",,,, Statue of Liberty or Miss Liberty

"You hear her cries of mercy
As the winners toll the bell.",,,,,,
the so-called "winners" might be politicians, who Liberty cries to for mercy, as they "toll the bell". Which could have been race riots at that time resulting in peoples "rights" being violated, or leading to loss of life either in American streets or in Viet Nam.

100 years above and beyond the lyrics on FM radio in 1971.

Led Zeppelin – Celebration Day Lyrics 11 years ago
another lyrical masterpiece,,,
I can see the illusion of "heroin" with the repeated word "she",,, if a man is a "hero",, then a woman is a ,,,, "heroine" drop the "e" and you have HEROIN.

"There is a train that leaves the station
Heading for your destination,",,,,,

perhaps Purgatory before your destination of Heaven or Hell ?

"And when you see it in the distance
You will wring your hands and moan",,,,,,,,

why? because now you've just realized,,,,, you're dead.

Then, the idea that "she" represents the Statue of Liberty is also very interesting, especially with the knowledge of Plant referring to this song as "the New York" song certainly gives weight to that idea.

"And her voice is sore from shouting
Cheering winners who are losing ",,,,,, White House politicians ?

"You hear her cries of mercy
As the winners toll the bell.",,,,, politicians again, tolling the bell for whom ?
U.S. soldiers in Viet Nam, or possibly MLK ?

This song is cleverly ambiguous.

Led Zeppelin – Carouselambra Lyrics 11 years ago
Blending mythology, literature, religion, and deliberately ambiguous "rock" lyrics,, this song is AMAZINGLY complex.
I suspect LZ realized the mysterious lyrics would hold people's interests much longer than the usual "fluff" that passed for rock lyrics at the time.
I read these lyrics and they are so rich and deep, I feel like I am looking at a painting by one of the great masters and my mind is being overwhelmed with imagery after imagery.
Zeppelin wasn't concerned with writing "pop" songs for the radio.
These lyrics are testimony that they were on to something bigger and better than FM airplay. Zeppelin was creating master pieces of sonic / audio art works.
"YES" and even "RUSH" dabble with imaginative lyrics but nothing with the sophistication of Led Zeppelin's lyrics.
Genius.
Just reading the lyrics they don't really look like a song, more like some
ancient poetry written by Leonardo DaVinci while tripping on acid.
And how Plant looked at them, gave them melody, and sang them,,, is absolutely stunning.
These lyrics should be required reading in high schools and colleges.
Then young kids "might" appreciate true creative genius, and hopefully turn their backs on the garbage that corporate record labels are now promoting as music.
