Regina Spektor – One More Time with Feeling Lyrics 10 years ago
My mother, my sister, my brother and I have all struggled with depression and anxiety. Last year, I was hospitalised a total of four times due to suicidal ideations, self harm, and more.
In the beginning, it was hard, breaking down as you try to explain to unsympathetic strangers things you barely understand, unrolling your sleeves while they interrogate. Eventually I stopped being bothered by it, or anything. Emotion became a foreign concept. I'd laugh, smile, joke and tease, but it was like playing a part in a play. Sometimes certain emotions would erupt, pain, hate, sadness, sometimes for no reason at all.
Getting better felt worse than anything else, but I couldn't look my parents in the eye anymore, and tell them how I felt. In hospital, we just played cards
.
This song makes me think back, to all the hospitals, tearful visits, but most of all, it gives me hope; more hope than I could hope for. <3

Lulu and the Lampshades – Cups (You're Gonna Miss Me) Lyrics 11 years ago
I remember learning this song in the hospital, (I still can't do the cup Dx) and everybody singing it together. It was fun, but it became bittersweet when everybody was released and we said our goodbyes, one girl sang this before she left. She was right, we missed her tons ;_;

When I'm gone
When I'm gone
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone

Regina Spektor – Laughing With Lyrics 11 years ago
I recently found this song, and listening to it, it makes me think of my habit of not "tempting fate" or "jinxing" anything. Never, would I dare say "what could go wrong?" without knowing the consequences. It's more of a joke that became a habit, as did knocking on wood, but I digress, back to the song.

"No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one's laughing at God
When they're starving or freezing or so very poor"
People have been known to turn to religion in dire times, even if they never had before. When a slimy tycoon is on their deathbed, they send their money to the charities, a last minute repent for their sins to rack up the heaven points. No one is laughing at God when they're on their knees in prayer.
In a situation like the ones Regina sings of, when you say "Oh my God", are you saying it because something's funny or just so awfully sad?

"But God can be funny"
To an atheist, polytheist, or somebody that believes in an entity besides God, listening to people worshipping and praying for Him is, yeah, funny. Though when I say "funny", I don't mean as in the "ha ha" kind, and even then not always. Hearing "God this, God that", is the jarring kind of funny, usually.
"At a cocktail party when listening to a good God-themed joke,"
Well, then he's funny to everybody. Whatever religion (or lack thereof) you are.

And what do say when you laugh? What do you say when you're in shock? "Oh my God."
