It always bothered me that part of the lyrics for the "There's a taste" part were missing, so I carefully listened to the album version, the remastered single version and many different live versions, until reaching the conclusion the missing text is "I know, but why have I said no?" or possibly "I know, but what have I said now?".

Disappointed? Why? It tells how many young people are recruited without really knowing what they're signing up for; how war can change them, and not always for the better; how difficult it can be to live with some of the choices you made in war. The psychological understanding in the lyrics is great, and the song as a whole a true masterpiece. |

I made a few corrections in the lyrics. It's "the void", not "that vibe" . ;)
I wholeheartedly agree that this is Saybia's best, most emotional, most overwhelming song to date. I'm spellbound, breathless and touched in even the deepest corner of my soul every time the climax comes up at 8:37. While you could say that no title is worthy, I find the title "The void" suitable, as the song first calls forth this emotional void inside me, then makes it explode into a giant ball of sadness and hopelessness. Actually I find "The void" very, very suitable - in fact I named it that in my Windows Media Player library. ^^ |

I've never heard about a rocket used as a phallic symbol; regardless it's hardly the case as SHE is the rocket - how can the girl be the phallus?
I think he just means to say she goes right through his defenses and makes him explode from within (emotionally). As a means to convince her to stay with him, he says he's seen the worst of her but still wants her - so she doesn't have to be afraid he'll eventually be scared away, because he's already seen the worst of her. That's not like he doesn't care, that's like he cares a lot - so much that he's willing to ignore her bad sides. So he's like "you're special, and even though I've seen some bad sides to you, I still want you - will you stay with me?" |

I have an idea about how the title, might have come up. In Danish, a drummer is called a "trommeslager" ("drumbeater"), while the word "repeat" is called "gentager". Because the drums have so little variation throughout the song compared to other Mew songs, someone might have joked while they practiced it, that Silas wasn't a "trommeslager" but a "gentagerslager", since he just kept repeating the same rhythm in that song. Then of course "gentagerslager" was translated to "repeaterbeater".
I don't know, but I think it's a good guess. ^^ |
