Low – Shots and Ladders Lyrics | 7 years ago |
Out of all of Low's songs, this is one of the bleakest. I assume it's to about terminal illness of some kind. The only time I've heard it played live was at End Of The Road Festival in 2008, where the closed with it and Alan had an onstage meltdown and threw his guitar into the crowd. |
Saint Etienne – Like the Swallow Lyrics | 7 years ago |
One of their best songs - the crescendo is epic and the lyrics are so, so sad. |
Spacemen 3 – walkin' with Jesus Lyrics | 8 years ago |
No comments? Jesus. Probably my favourite song about addiction. |
The Magnetic Fields – Meaningless Lyrics | 8 years ago |
MaxDG1013 above has the closest to how I feel about this. It seems clear that one interpretation of this is an ode to existentialist thought, that ultimately the ground of being has no meaning, just like everything, like the fireflies fluorescing. Yet that meaningless allows love to be at all, it is beautiful/profound/infinite/magnificent and mind blowing. Of course, at the same time it's simply an achingly bitter lament from someone who's just had their heartbroken. The fact that it's both at the same time ably demonstrates Stephin Merritt's songwriting chops. |
Au Revoir Simone – Another Likely Story Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Isn't it: "I remember to remember breaking up with him all over again" |
