Well I know everyone has their own interpretation on songs but I thought I'd present you mine. I'll try to make it short and interesting to read! -"Does the body rule the mind or does the mind rule the body, I dunno" I really think of this particular part as a struggle inside the mind, linked with homosexuality, or some other sexual preference. Can I just make it up in my mind that I am straight, not gay?(Does the mind rule the body) Or is it just something purely physical, I can't help it but to feel pleasure from these things through my body?(Does the body rule the mind) Then, let's move on.. -"Under the Iron Bridge we kissed, and although I ended up with sore lips, it just wasn't like the old days anymore" This, to me, sounds like a scenario of the same person, unsure about their sexuality, in fact kissing under the Iron Bridge with somebody who isn't really the gender they prefer.. The person kisses their lips sore, but still it doesn't give them the same pleasure as it did when they kissed another person sometime ago, who was the sex that they "enjoyed" more. Then it continues: -"No it wasn't like those days am I Still Ill?" Seems like a cry from the storyteller. Are they Still Ill (I think the illness is supposed to describe homosexuality, since it was classified as illness some decades ago)? Are they still gay? Hope this wasn't a complete mess, and you understood what I was trying to get through. Yes, I know, yet another interpretation including homosexuality but since you kind of know that Morrissey has this undefinable sexual preference, which I actually relate to, in my case, you sort of start to look at The Smiths songs and his own songs through a rainbow-colored lens, if you know what I mean. |

I always thought the whispers mean that she is dying to say her real feelings, which she still must keep to herself. People think she's fine, they think she's just small-talking, "hello, goodbye", but actually she has much deeper feelings inside of her. Or maybe it's about how people think she has nothing to say, or she's worthless and stupid (like "hah she wears lipstick, what a dumb bitch"=nobody understands her at all) and she only can say hello&goodbye when actually she has so much to say I'm a really bad explainer, sorry! OH YEAH, and this song also makes me think about our trip to portugal. I commented my interpretation of this song on a comment of this song in youtube. I've always had a clear interpretation of this song in my head. Well, ofcourse it always kinda changes within my own situation and feelings, but in general this is what I thought: The narrator is a girl whose boyfriend/husband has died. I probably don't need to explain this so much but still. "Dust to dust" implies to death. Then "go in circles round the bend until we are just friends again and then not even that, sometimes I almost can recall what it was like before we ever met, sometimes not even that" is about the girl trying the forget the guy, doing everything she can not to worry and cry about the loss. Such a sad song, haunting indeed, and I just love it. |

I love this song. It's so comforting and desperate.. "the things that used to comfort me don't comfort me, not anymore", that line is just something I think of at times. Somebody also feels like that! The other line that I also love is "You can't spend your whole life waiting for God to kiss you" You got to do it yourself, don't just sit around. A beauuuutiful song. |

I definately think this is about illuminati and all that shit. Maybe she's trying to warn us about it? Machine... it's a machine, the whole concept. I mean, look at the lyrics of Consequence of sounds, a lot of stuff that implies to illuminati and how "they claim they will save us but want to enslave us" enslave, like a machine.. make us machines.. hmm. But yet still Marc Webb, who directed her two videos fidelity and better, made the videos seem like regina is a part of illuminati. But she's not.
