PUP – Sleep in the Heat Lyrics 6 years ago
BUT I KNOW I WON'T!

Frontman Stefan Babcock’s explains:

This song is about my baby chameleon. Her name is Norman. If you’re a fan of the first record, you might have seen the ‘Mabu’ video, where I drive my family car in a demolition derby. We rented a bunch of reptiles for the video, because, reptiles are cool as shit. We had a snake and some turtles and some goldfish, and we also got a baby chameleon.
That day was really emotional for me. After the derby, we had a funeral for my mangled car (watch the video, you’ll understand). While I was saying goodbye, my heart was breaking, and I was holding this little chameleon. I looked down, and she was just staring up at me with these huge, adorable eyes, and I loved her right away. She was filling the car-sized hole in my heart. I named her Norman and took her home that night.
Norman was the best. She hunted crickets and hung out in this cool terrarium me and my roommates built for her, and she was super friendly. But one day, she got really sick. I took her to a special reptile hospital, where they told me she had a tongue infection, and would need to have it amputated. The procedure was going to cost $1000 (pretty much every dollar in my bank account), but money didn’t matter. I loved Norman and she was my responsibility.
After the surgery, Norman was different. Chameleons rely on their tongues to eat and drink and hunt. For weeks, my roommates and I tried to teach her to do those things without a tongue. She just couldn’t figure it out. She got frustrated. And at a certain point, she stopped trying. She wouldn’t eat. She slept all day. She slowly lost her will to live, and that was the end of it.
I miss Norman a lot. I think about her every day. I really really liked her. I hope she liked me too.

Tool – Jimmy Lyrics 7 years ago
@[bakerbaker90:19403] All coincidental interpretations are valid. Tools lyrics are filled with what they call magic, so that it inevitably let´s the listener project its own reality.

I myself had great insights about myself through the meditation of the lyrics, especially the number 11.

Lyrics correction:

correct: You are the voice that's been calling me back home

instead of: You hold the light that's been leading me back home

Radiohead – My Iron Lung Lyrics 10 years ago
All pretty good meanings, as I remember Thom said himself it's about Creep and Radiohead being a one-hit wonder. And as with all Radiohead songs I think it's about alienation from modern society life.

Who can live a fulfilled life, as time has told the consumer dream life can not, instead it has created the sensationally satisfied individual, fulfilled of the basic needs and dependent upon entertainment, luxuries, pleasures for happiness, but always this itch as satisfaction runs out in the dull general life. family, job security, state safety and community life, all are our great values we hold true for a fulfilled life, but the utopia this dream proposes hasn't arrived, and fear is long from being erased, the dark side is shielded off.

I think that's the positive-constructive Thom put in this song, that it's ok to be frightened, as through experiencing fear you can and will find out why, in Radiohead's case this realization might have fueled them being one of the most creative bands, contuiningly producing great music. I would think, as looking fear in the eyes, learning about yourself, through the years Radiohead made it a lot easier at looking at the other, 'negative', side of (my) life.

Radiohead – Idioteque Lyrics 10 years ago
wow dude, thanks for this, it strikes a chord within me, as I had an experience like that with Motion Picture Soundtrack, it completely absorbed me into a dream state and i felt like i was about to die, and realized i wasted my life, and that it's all just a dream anyways :)

i get the same, and from all Radiohead albums since The Bends, they're all about self-realization, understanding our society/world, and the death-rebirth process. I can write a book about it :P

Editors – Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors Lyrics 10 years ago
I just wanted to start this song, when I got a call about a ayahuasca healing weekend I am about to join. The man told me because I smoke that people do go outside the building to smoke when the ceremony but that it's not helpful, and I had already decided not to smoke. I like synchronicities like this, they make me glow up.

It is sad that people who choose to be healed are still stuck in their old patterns of harmful behaviour. We all want to be our real true selves in the now, but it's hard to let go of the echoes of history

A Perfect Circle – The Outsider Lyrics 11 years ago
I like how the song puts you on the wrong the foot from the start, as you're thinking from the lyrics the outsider wants to understand the addict to be able to help him/her. As the lyrics progress, slowly you'll see that there is not much compassion for the addict, as he's being harshly judged which suggests total lack of understanding.

In the end it's not so much about the addict, but about the outsider looking at the addict as a threat to him/herself, never being able to bridge that gap from being the outsider to being a friend to able to help. The outsider might even be in a worse state than the addict, as he only cares about him/herself and the addict is a nuisance.

"if your drama proves sincere" so if the addict is actually telling the truth, and therefore NOT lying to himself, "do it somewhere far away from here", the outsider don't care if the addict kills himself as long as he/her is not bothered anymore by the addict.

*sarcasm* Thanks outsider for your help and understanding! */sarcasm*

just look at your own life, most people are like this.

30 Seconds to Mars – A Beautiful Lie Lyrics 11 years ago
if it's about global warming, like the previous person spammed the comments with, it's that global warming is a LIE, told to control us, because for the people who tell us these lies it's all just a game, they're in it for the money. Al Gore is the biggest hypocrite of them all, with his Nobel Prize and other awards, living in a 30 room mansion while he tells us to be ashamed of ourselves for just living our normal lives, and making hundreds of millions of pure profit from Carbon Taxing with his company Blood&Gore (no joke, that's the actual name of his company).

please educate yourself and stop this nonsense.

as for a more personal interpretation, I think Kruppz commented with some good points.

Katy Perry – E.T. Lyrics 11 years ago
this song is just plain f*cked up, and anyone romanticizing is, rationalizing it to be some kind of 'true love' or other weird interpretations hasn't actually read the lyrics.

sex sells, aliens sell, that pretty much sums op the music industry and Hollywood.

apart from that, ask yourself this, do you want to be kidnapped, fed poison, be a victim to someone who must have done such disgusting things to be called a devil, or do you think being hypnotized resembles anything close to true love? please think before you put stupid comments about song meanings because you just happen to like a cheesy track or have the hots for a singer who has sold herself. it's f*cked up i say.

Radiohead – Codex Lyrics 11 years ago
I think too musinc nailed most it, don't like the literals though, Thom Yorke seldom states the literal. Also he is far from the person to sing about suicide.

last but not least I would say that it's not about letting go of morality, but the voice seems to broaden the moral perspective for the addressed person, probably talking to oneself. By saying you've done nothing wrong, it's ok to make the leap, no one will get hurt,

hope you don't take offense to my additions :)

By saying you've done nothing wrong, it's ok to make the leap, no one will get hurt, he's taking away any untruthful moral limitations one may have. I would argue that a good/truthful to oneself moral framework would actually free the individual to do what he/she wants without feeling bad about it.

Radiohead – Give Up the Ghost Lyrics 11 years ago
it reminds of the end of suffering in buddhist traditions, where it is one's own thoughts, the ghost can be interpreted as the realm of thoughts. There can be nothing more hauntful and unavoidable than thoughts of hurt from the past.

Thom Yorke – Hearing Damage Lyrics 11 years ago
For me this song works on multiple levels, I can't even expect anything less coming from Thom Yorke, he's just an awesome musician&poet.

Having had a damaged youth, and hearing damage in 1 ear, it's like sounds and words are distorted. I can't hear sometimes what people say literally and symbolically, and when people realize there's something wrong with me and give their oppinions/judgements or try to help I only hear the damage that has been done to me in my youth. But it works inwardly as well, for my fight/flight mechanism is damaged and I can't trust my own sometimes.

Thankfully most of this has been resolved, but the damage that has been done to my ear and mind can never be undone. Why can't I forget? (Planet Telex)

A Perfect Circle – The Hollow Lyrics 11 years ago
it is about sex, but not how you want it to be, but maybe because you are The Hollow personified. Try to differentiate between the lyrics and how the music makes you feel.

And "a perfect circle" is purely spiritual, the vagina is far from a perfect circle.

Army of Anyone – Disappear Lyrics 11 years ago
great song, i can kinda relate to it, made that gives some meaning to it: people f*ck you over so much, if it's bullies, bosses, sociopaths, psychopaths, egomaniacs, the government, the bankers, the elite, institutional religion, basically everyone who thinks they're authorative over someone else, it makes you doubt your world view, get you down, you dissapear to a safe place, in your head, in your house, to figure the world out. jesus or god cannot save you when people tread on you.

Also I hear singer say my world instead of the world sometimes, which I interpret that he rather holds on to his old world view in his head than to change it to what he had experienced in the real world, of being ostracized
