Michael Jackson – Black or White Lyrics | 9 years ago |
This is probably the best review on this site I've read. Some people just go off on a tangent or try to force some meaning to a lyric that probably only they can see. But you, my friend, have just explained this song to a tee. I also love the humor in these lines: "But, if you're thinkin' 'bout my baby It don't matter if you're black or white" At the end of the day isn't that how it is? It's just such a lighthearted song but it still has a deep and important meaning if you think about it. That's how you educate people without them noticing. |
Avril Lavigne – Anything But Ordinary Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I definitely hear what you do. I kinda feel the melancholy in this song as well. I guess we all want to be unique and special and it's not always a fun road... if that makes any sense. |
Katy Perry – Dark Horse Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Supposedly this is about an irresistible, femme fatale kind of woman. Once you fall in love with her, there's no turning back. As Juicy J puts it "she eat your heart out." She's the dark horse in love so you better think twice whether you want to get with this girl. I suppose this is one of those produced songs where it has almost no relation to real life, it's just a fantasy. I definitely don't think this is Katy in real life. Based on other songs on her album she's a lot more vulnerable. |

You solved it I think! |
Ed Sheeran – Autumn Leaves Lyrics | 11 years ago |
First of all, I absolutely love the song. It's very calm and relaxing, and I think the lyrics speak of a healthy attitude towards life and death in general. "Do you ever wonder if the stars shine out for you?" "Is it that it's over or do birds still sing for you?" I think these two lines are about afterlife, or at least a possibility of afterlife. It's a common theme that people who have passed away are shining down upon us from the sky. The line from the second chorus is a different take on this but it essentially carries the same meaning: is there or isn't there life after death? "Float down Like autumn leaves Hush now Close your eyes before the sleep And you're miles away And yesterday you were here with me" So the chorus to me is just about accepting death. Yes, we will all die eventually, it happens to everybody so we might as well get ready for it and use the time we have. And the last two lines are really eerie, I know I'm reading into it too much but we all have relatives who passed away and it's just so inexplicable that once they were alive, with us and now they're gone, nowhere to be found. It really do seems like yesterday. Anyway, there are probably other things that could make sense based on the lyrics and everyone's free to interpret it however they want but this is pretty much what it means to me. |
Blake Shelton – Sure Be Cool If You Did Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think this is pretty obvious, this is just one of those I-like-you-a-lot songs with a small twist (by telling the girl "you don't have to [...] but it'd sure be cool if you did.") I really like the sound of it, though the instrumentation is somewhat reminiscent of 'God Gave Me You.' But it worked well there and it works here too. |
Ed Sheeran – The City Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This is definitely Ed's own story of moving to London and all the hardships of trying to make a living out of singing. But you also get to understand how he was lost in the city at first and trying to feel comfortable ("this is now my home") but at the end it turns out that you really can't force that ("this is NOT my home.") And of course being a teenager at the time he was happy to be out the influence of his parents ("can't control what I'm into.") I also love the Sticky Studios version which has another verse which just makes the meaning even clearer. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHQzvmkuINs ) |
Ed Sheeran – Small Bump Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This is such a cleverly written song. I'm not a parent, so I wouldn't know what expecting a child feels like but you obviously hope for something good to happen rather than something bad. And in the song we get to see these emotions, really simple but powerful, and in the last lines all that good feeling just turns into sadness but that's exactly what a miscarriage has to be like. This is actually a really bold topic for a song. I get tired of hearing love songs again and again but Ed Sheeran's lyrics are very refreshing and his songs tend to be very thought provoking. |
Ed Sheeran – The A Team Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I hate how in the YouTube comment section people write stuff like "u guys know dis is about a crack addict prostitute?" as if it was just an attention seeking song with a controversial topic. I think the woman in the song could be any one of us, we all make foolish decisions and we get addicted to things but at the end of the day we are also the ones who can make sure that it's not "cold outside" for those who need help. Because obviously a person in a similar situation needs help and they won't be able to solve it on their own. Great song, really, and it's mind-boggling that it was written by a teenager. |
