The National – Cardinal Song Lyrics 8 years ago
The "Cardinal" in this song also serves as a Roman Catholic bishop known as a cardinal in my opinion. The song could be seen from a religious perspective, where faith is treated as the main subject. It's also a beautiful love song, but that's just another way to look at it in my opinion. Most artists write songs like this with more than one meaning in mind.

Son Lux – Lanterns Lit Lyrics 9 years ago
With a lot of Son Lux songs, I see religious parallels. This one is to the parable of the Bridegroom coming and the running out of oil in people's lamps. The narrator is keeping their lantern lit for the coming of Christ, repeating that they will remain faithful multiple times. But curiously in the end he says you just could not last for me, makes it a more sorrowful song despite its beauty. It leaves you wondering whether he has actually lost faith or is just facing hardships.

Son Lux – Raise Lyrics 9 years ago
This song reminds me of the Biblical story of doubting Thomas. He needed to see that Jesus had returned from the dead in order to believe. But I also think that this is more focused with the fact that the narrator doesn't actually need the proof, and that they believe anyways because of Jesus' resurrection. A definite religious theme with a more comforting tone in my opinion.

@[StoneColdFox:2189] I agree that this song is more focused on the music, but I still believe Ryan but a lot of thought into the lyrics, regardless of how simple they may seem.

Son Lux – Stand Lyrics 9 years ago
This song to me is kind of like a simplified Psalm. It's simply saying that Jesus will protect you from evil and that he is God. It could also refer to anything of a protecting nature, but I draw a lot of religious influences from Son Lux's music.

Son Lux – Betray Lyrics 9 years ago
I can see this as a very deep metaphor, but to me this is just a sad post breakup song. He was loyal to the girl, but she still left him. She betrayed him and he saw it coming but he still loved her and just wants to spend more time with her, like talking at dinner.

Son Lux – Chase Lyrics 9 years ago
To me, this song is a metaphor. Although it is short and often overlooked, being that in live performances its chorus is used as a bridge for Claws, it's very beautiful. I see two interpretations of this metaphor. The main one to me, is this is about a relationship. Being a guy, I see it as a girl loved him and would do anything for him (sweep his floors with her hair, not sure the significance of that but still). However her feelings changed and she no longer loves him and wants to erase her memories of him. Instead of chasing him and trying to love him, she lets him go. But no matter how hard she tries she can't change the fact that she did and he's a living testimony to that. The other metaphor I see is a Christ parallel, where Jesus washes the feet of his disciples in order to save them (kinda like sweeping floors I guess) and regardless of whether or not someone believes Christ is God, he still died for them and no one can change that. He will chase you, and he won't let you go.

The Neighbourhood – How Lyrics 10 years ago
From what I can tell, the song seems to be an inner turmoil. The protagonist is questioning God but at the time seems to hold some sort of hope. With the first verse he seems to be addressing another person and asking them how they could go on with themselves without faith, and towards the end he's questioning it himself without any real resolution. The song seems to be about doubt but at the same time he's trying to believe. God tells him he's great and that he's loved and that's his fate, but he's having a hard time believing it because of some sort of lack of self-esteem. People laugh at him for his 'superstition' and torment him, so he takes it out on God asking him how can what you say be true when everyone says something different. I think the end of the song resolves in him being sort of resolved, but it doesn't imply one way or the other.

The Fray – Vienna Lyrics 10 years ago
Personally I feel this song is about a long distance relationship that is strained by the distance but not quite broken. Being an aspiring musician when he wrote this and planning to travel the world, Isaac probably wrote this for someone he was in a relationship with at the time whom he really loved but didn't want to leave, if not only for a certain period of time. As an aspiring musician myself who plans to tour in the future, I worry about my relationship lasting through those times of separation. So that's just my personal take, although I'm sure there are many more.

Blur – No Distance Left to Run Lyrics 10 years ago
This song came up during a time when I was lovesick, and still am thank you, and it makes me feel incredibly sad. I want to ask someone out but am afraid they'll say no and that I'm not good enough, and I think this song embodies how I'd feel it that was to happen. I'm praying it doesn't but holy shit this song makes me hurt nonetheless.

There's definitely a relationship overtone, but I don't think it's necessarily about the sex part of it. Also there's some political lyrics so I wouldn't agree with you there.

The Fray – Say When Lyrics 10 years ago
I've never thought it was "any guy can be on both sides of a coin", I always said it was "maybe God can be on both sides of a gun, never understood why some of us never get it so good." I honestly like my way better. That doesn't usually happen. Weird how are brains piece together thoughts even if they are dis proven later, we still remember them. Actually now that I'm listening to it while riding this, I swear that what I thought he said was right. Strange.

Radiohead – Street Spirit (Fade Out) Lyrics 10 years ago
To me this, this song is a sharp, two-edged sword. There are two clear interpretations and yet they contradict each other. You can go on with life knowing it's pointless and immerse your soul in love to get through, or you can get through life believing in God and be saved from the desperation of the morbid thoughts of death and Hell. I think they purposely leave this unclear, but knowing Radiohead I'd say it leans closer to the first definition, although personally I believe and hope it's the second.

Coldplay – Lost! Lyrics 10 years ago
I always though he said "doesn't mean I'm on a cross" not "doesn't mean I would cross". I thought he was making an ironic reference to Jesus on the cross, considering the song is about being lost and Christ died for victory over death.

MGMT – Cool Song No. 2 Lyrics 10 years ago
This song has been looping in my head for weeks, and I've just got to put it out there, it's an under appreciated musical masterpiece. The pulsating rhythms, the sexy as hell bass line, the "often purposely hitting the wrong notes" piano part, and Andrew's subtle vocals make this an incredible listening experience. "I might feel better, knowing I wasn't alone." That line alone comes to the forefront of my brain at least five times a day and I don't know why. It's mostly because I have a crush on someone, and in the midst of our chaotic live I'm trying to debate the best way to go about things and this line keeps reminding me that I'm currently lonely and need to seek protection in others. The song exempts no human emotions. There's sadness, despair, loneliness, a touch of happiness, it's got the works. The video makes me feel this is about someone trying to help someone or themselves out of a drug addiction, but I also feel this could apply to almost any situation that has strong emotions, since it's at its root a very human song. I just absolutely love it, and it's a masterpiece. If you haven't checked out MGMT's new album, I suggest you do.

Coldplay – Amsterdam Lyrics 10 years ago
For several years, this song has always been a reflection of sadness to me, but also a beacon of hope. The whole song shows me just how much pain I'm in and how much suffering I feel, and then at the end shakes me around and slaps my face and tells me I'm wrong. "You came along and cut me loose". That is perhaps one of the greatest lines in a song I've ever heard or will ever hear. I refuse to play this song or let people hear it without their full attention, since it contains so much emotion and personal meaning to me. The song could literally relate to anyone who's "fallen in a hole" in their lives per say, and it relates to anyone who was saved and got through it. To me personally, this song is about being sadistic and depressed, usually because of low self-esteem hence "It's no cause for concern" (too afraid to voice yourself), and the reason you're sad is because you have feelings for someone who doesn't realize it. And as soon as you hit the bottom, they realize how you feel, and save you from yourself. Whether or not they actually save you, or they completely leave you to the dogs, is up to your interpretation since I also relate to this song religiously. I believe in forgiveness, and the ending could be a person damning themselves for everything they'd ever done wrong or regretted, and God forcibly removing these thoughts. Anyway, I could write an enormous thesis about this song alone, but these are just a few jutting thoughts I had to share.
Please enjoy the music.

Arcade Fire – Lenin Lyrics 11 years ago
When I hear this song, for whatever reason, I just see a bunch of drunk Communists dancing on a table with Vladmir Lenin in some big chair above everyone else. I don't know why, but I imagine there are other intended meanings, like the fact that the governments of the world are running out of money and hearing all that kind of shit on the news and just being scared, not knowing what to feet other than distant fear. Then again it's a fun tune.
