As I Lay Dying – 94 Hours Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I agree with Mattewro. Thats one of the beuatiful parts of this band, their music is practically philosophy, pondering life, looking deeper into things. Its not just shallow repetition of a story from a book. |

My apologies, making a correction: Whenever Christians seek help for forgiveness, they go back to Church, deepening the influence. I'm sorry if my original interpretation confused anyone. |
As I Lay Dying – Vacancy Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I'll go for a different angle than religion. I think what the general idea of freedom that oppresses us could originate from corruption in companies and government, we've allowed too many loopholes and politicians are being bought off. This leads to the obstruction of morals, enslaving us all to those with the money and the right connections. |
All That Remains – This Calling Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I personally believe it could be about suicide/depression. When you have it for a long time, you start to grow dependent and begin to give in more and more to the terminal urge. I secretly crave, crave that scent again (Deep inside he wants to end it all) Still feel it pressing on me now Now with the onset, my flesh is weakening (Through all he's been through, he's starting to give in) I steel my nerves for temptations at hand again (Preparing himself and resisting the urge.) And I hear this calling still you don't seem so far at all And I hear this calling out (His mind is beckoning for him to go, and death doesn't seem like an impossibility right now) No secrets deception for these would tear this down (He can't hide from himself) I'll note the past spare the pain words match my deeds with brutal honesty never forget these choices were made by me (He's regretting so many things he's done, and he torments himself over them.) And I hear this calling still you don't seem so far at all And I hear this calling out Not falling victim to the fire that burns inside of me though I am fearful I will not prevent this tragedy (Though he's scared of the end, he's aware that he will break some time) My strengths been tested I wear the scars that prove (Could be cutting to cope with the mental agony) Still I believe that this calling will see me through (Still he believes that its not enough) And I hear this calling still you don't seem so far at all And I hear this calling out My strengths been tested I wear the scars that prove Still I believe that this calling will see me through. Of course, this is only one interpretation, if you went by the music video it could be the other way around. I apologize if my interpretation has disturbed or offended anyone. |
As I Lay Dying – Behind Me Lies Another Fallen Soldier Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Everyone has their own interpretation. As Soundgarden said in concert, the beauty in songs is that they can mean so many things to different people. That can be emotionally or how you interpret it if the lyrics are open. And it doesn't even have to be about Iraq, that was certainly not our only war, we've had other semi-recent ones such as the Vietnam war and the Korean War (Though it technically was not an official "war"). Loosen up a bit, and try not to be such a fanatic. I can certainly see how it could be interpreted in the God sense, but you don't have to get uptight about it. |
As I Lay Dying – Tear Out My Eyes Lyrics | 11 years ago |
*sigh* It disturbs me how quickly people commenting on As I Lay Dying refer to religion... Their songs are amazing because they can be applied to anyone, not just a book and belief. I think the song is about how people can be so quick to judge and the struggle with one self afterwards and the consequences. It is human nature to judge, and though its a bad thing, though its unhealthy, we must forgive and understand that it happens. To move on and understand that it's part of life, not dwell on the past, but prevent in the future. |
As I Lay Dying – Repeating Yesterday Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I believe that is the beautiful thing about As I Lay Dying. Though they are a Christian band, their music can be interpreted in so many ways and goes beyond religion- it ponders life and the struggles of this world. It can be truthfully be enjoyed, appreciated, and understood by just about anyone, no matter what religious standpoint if any at all. |
All That Remains – Empty Inside Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This song is a great representation of what it's like to have depression. You're practically dead to the world and the emotions but you can feel the pain. Love only brings more pain yet you long for it in desperate hope it will help you heal. |
As I Lay Dying – The Plague Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I've noticed that people have lots of interpretations, but few have interpreted the chorus, "reach out your hand, only to be plagued by disease" "Reach out your hand, to find forgiveness, only to be plagued by disease" I'll follow the atheistic interpretation on this one, that whenever we seek help, or forgiveness, we go back to Church, deepening the influence. |

Guyya, I don't believe those were his intentions at all. I believe by saying "while religion tries to blame what we cannot see, I accept that part of the problem is me" Is religion tries to create imaginary scape goats in denial that us humans are mostly the problem. We create such conflict, murder, wars, pollution, but its easy to blind ourselves believing that it's not our fault, we're "influenced" by a superior evil. |

Eh, only parts are wrong, trying to help out as well. |
Pantera – A New Level Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Never mind, after a bit of research, I've found it actually is by Panthera. Five Finger Death Punch just made another version of it. Sorry 'bout that. |
Pantera – A New Level Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This song is actually by Five Finger Death Punch, not sure why its labeled for this band... |
Disturbed – Prayer Lyrics | 11 years ago |
True, but all songs are open to interpretation. Don't get all worked up because some people have found deeper or other meaning to the song than that. |
As I Lay Dying – Beyond Our Suffering Lyrics | 11 years ago |
We all make such big deals of the problems we have, but if we take a deeper look, it id NOTHING compared to what others suffer, and they look down sadly upon us because of it. That is my interpretation. |
